CNTRL + up/down not working along with certain fn keys and I tried to troubleshoot keyboard

Copper Contributor

Hi, I am in the process of learning quicker ways around excel and for some reason my cntrl up/down doesn't work but left right does. Certain fn commands also don't work like shift fn f8. I troubleshooted the keyboard and made sure scroll lock is off but still no dice.

@lhiggins808 Perhaps Fn lock is on? Does Control+Fn+Up (down) work instead by any chance?

If only manufacturers would design laptop keyboards with the Excel power user in mind!

@JKPieterse Nope fn lock is off. I tried that and it still doesn't work. I've been searching the internet for a few days and can't find an answer

Does pushing the up and down arrow keys work as expected in Excel?
Do you have any apps installed which use these keyboard shortcuts? Powertoys comes to mind?

@JKPieterse Yeah, using the arrow keys regularly works. I do not have any other apps that could affect it. I might just try to uninstall excel and reinstall it

I doubt if Excel is the culprit. Things to try:
- Start Excel in safe mode (hold the control key while Excel starts, it should prompt asking to start in safe mode or not)
- Attach an external keyboard to your laptop and see if the problem persists
Nope, still doesn't work. Thanks for trying to help though
Perhaps you could go into Windows settings, Startup apps. Take note if which are there, and start unchecking and rebooting to see which might be causing this.
