Checkbox in Word won't fill in when clicked on it. I have macros on.

When I clicked on "checkbox" in the Developer's tab, a box appeared in my Word document. The default was set to "not checked."  When I clicked on the checkbox, nothing happened. I expected an 'X' to be filled in. My goal is to be able to five this form to another user who can then click on the appropriate checkboxes and see an 'X' appear. I was told by Jude Neil Deni that there may be a macro problem. Please advise on how to correct this. Thanks. And also I have Macros on this document.. I am using a Mac device by the way.
