Cannot add image to Header in Excel - Bad Request error

Copper Contributor

I have two users getting the same error in Excel. The error says bad request too long. In the past I could have the user select Bing then work offline. But we do not get any options. Everything I find online says to clear cookies. I have cleared them in all browsers but still get this error. I have verified both users Excel are up to date.

@dfountain86If you are having this problem in MS Word A simple solution to this is that change the scaling to any other percentage and change it back to default, It worked for me! up.pngcheck if it works for you in excel.

Amazing!
Many thanks.
Thanks worked for me

@hskyesong Thanks so very much for these instructions.  This worked perfectly for me along with the addition of the "Click Work Offline" post just following yours.  Appreciate the help!

@hskyesong thanks I had the same issue and this worked for me also.

The college I am working at was having internet issues so the Excel copy on there just hung with a white screen so I thought I would email the file to my own computer to add the image but then I had the bad request error whilst Excel also popped up a box asking how happy I was with Excel.

It's a bit rubbish that you need an internet connection just to insert a file from your local hard drive into a local Excel file also stored on your local hard drive!

Hello, this can be easyly managed, just change your default explorer from Edge to Chrome or firefox or whatever you have,
Restart your computer,
it will be fixed,
you can return to the original default,
so, just changing the defualt internet browser can fix the issue
good luck

This solved a similar but slightly different issue I have been having in Excel. I would receive the same error message when trying to insert an image into a Note box within Excel. Thank you for sharing your solution!

Thank you @hskyesong this worked.

Good workaround solution

@hskyesong- Thank you for the answer.

As additional information:

a. after un-clicking the optional connected experiences, and...

b. after clicking insert picture at the custom header dialogue box...

c. I receive a message that says... "The service required to use this feature is turned off.  Check your privacy settings. -- Work offline / Cancel "

The message seems counter-intuitive.

Select "Work Offline", and then you can insert your image from a file.

My IT folks worked through this solution.

Thanks.
