Can't open all excel files

Copper Contributor

When I try to open any excel file stored on my GDrive filestream i get the message:

Excel cannot open the file "xxxx.xlsx" because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.

When I save a new excel file to GDrive I get the message:

The document was saved successfully, but excel cannot re-open it because of a sharing violation. Please close the document and try to open it again.

If i log into Google I can open excel files in Sheets.  I can open them in One drive.  But I want to be able to use the Microsoft office suite.  I've tried many solutions suggested, but they apply to single files - not all files.

A possible cause could be the write-protect ..

Share under Windows 10 if write-protected.

Allow authenticated users to make changes to the share:

- In Windows Explorer, right-click the folder or hard drive you want to share and select "Share ...".

- Click the "Advanced Sharing" button and agree to continue.

- Activate the "Share this folder" check box.

- Click on "Permissions" and click on "Full Control" in the "Allow" column.

An additional alternative that you might be familiar with is to download the file to the PC and then open it.

Also, if you can recommend, use OneDrive to work around such future problems.

Hope I was able to help you with this info.
