Calendar

Copper Contributor

I'm going to try this request again. Several weeks ago I sent in this problem and a couple people responded with solutions. It is an old excel spreadsheet but it worked for our small volunteer library. Recently I noticed that it was not populating cells in future months nor setting them up with correct dates. I'm open to other solutions if this one doesn't work for me. Please advise.

Thanks,

Jim

@jimb390 I believe I was involved in this at the time, though a bit longer than a few weeks ago. Anyhow, what exactly is the problem? When I select a month in the future, e.g. August 2024 the first day is on a Thursday, which is correct according to my calendar.

I see the problem. On the August calendar it didn't populate 8/31. When I bring up September, it populates the days before the month starts thus throwing off the entire month.

@jimb390 Not sure I follow. Tested several months. All seems to work fine. If you experience something different, please include a screenshot demonstrating the problem.

Here are the two screen shots. The August schedule doesn't have the volunteers that are suppost to work on 8/31. It's blank which is a problem. The September schedule starts by placing names in squares before the start of the month. This then causes all the names to be placed in the incorrect place in that month. I need to have it populate the squares at the beginning of a paricular month so that the names don't get shiffed.

@jimb390 Okay! Now I believe we are back to square one. In an earlier thread I believe I mentioned that this particular template is quite useless. All it does is create a grid for the month selected, just like a good old paper calendar. It has no intelligence built-in that keeps track of activities/event in a particular month.

You type in the names of the volunteers yourself one month, in the correct cells and next month you have to move or re-inter the names into the correct cells manually. There is no automated process here.

Now, I do notice that there seems to be some kind of repetitive structure in the schedule. For instance, Wolf always has the 11am-1pm shift on Saturdays. Stoner, Elliot and Vultaggio seem to work as a team on Tuesdays and always taking shifts in the same order. These are just a few examples. Can you confirm or clarify how the schedule is made?

I just manually enter the names. I want to be able to get them to update automatically from month to month but I understand from your answer that is not possible with this template. Is there another template you can show me that would accomplish this?

@jimb390

That I don't know. There are many calendar templates "out there". You just have to find the one that works for you or create something yourself. Many templates on-line are very specific and difficult to amend if they don't exactly meet your demands.

Why not use a calendar that's available on your PC/Mac?
