average formula

Copper Contributor

hello . simple problem. I am trying to use an average formula for a row of numbers. I followed the instructions for putting the formula into the cell but when I hit enter the only thing that shows up in the formula cell is # symbol. if I click on the cell it shows the formula in the bar up top but it's not giving me the numerical average for the row. I used it on a different part of the spreadsheet and it works fine. not sure what's wrong. help!!

@teacher_rich Would be helpful if you could upload an example or a screenshot showing the content of the cells you want to average and the formula you entered. For instance, if the average results in a negative and the cell format is (perhaps by mistake) set as Time, then you get ###########.

#

so this is the row of numbers i'm trying to average and the formula cell is at the bottom showing #.

the numbers are in row AD and the individual cells are all set to general format.

this is the formula that's in the cell:

=AVERAGE(AD102:AD125)

If you make column AD wider do you still have # ?
