Welcome to the November 2022 update. We are excited to announce the release of a couple features that are now generally available (GA) to all Excel users on Windows and Mac - Show Changes and insert Data from a Picture. For our web users, Chart Data Foils allows you to see a visual indicator highlighting the cell range used for charts. Lastly, iOS Insider users will experience a smoother and cleaner experience within the command and ribbon panes on their devices.

Curious to see how we at Excel utilize and act on your feedback? You can now see which features are a direct result of your feedback as they'll be marked with the new Feedback In Action tile #FIA.

Chart Data Foils

Chart Data Foils provides a visual indicator directly on the spreadsheet highlighting the source range of cells for charts. Users can easily modify that range with the click and drag of a mouse. After a user has created a chart, they can now leverage Data Foils to modify which rows/columns of data are used for their chart including its series titles, series values, and category values.

Are Wolfram Data types available only to Microsoft Employees, I thought these were deprecated, however In the video that demos Insert data from picture the Wolfram data type option is available... are there plans to bring them back ?

  • From everybody that works in a modern way (sharing online) I have a request to the Excel team:

:light_bulb: Please focus on Excel Online for the next few dev cycles to bring it up to speed with desktop and Google Sheets, with two overarching criteria:

    • feature parity with desktop in all basic areas.
      • This means everything on the Home tab, plus any basic missing features from elsewhere.
    • UX and feature parity with Google Sheets
      • This means not just features, but the UX... especially in the sharing and collaboration features

Why should you do this? Because in this day and age we shouldn't need Google Sheets - with Microsoft's huge resources you could boost Excel Online so that it blows Sheets out of the water! But you're losing the battle with young people in start-ups - they choose Sheets. Very frustrating.

But if Excel Online was just as good, this will have a knock-on effect on the rest of the M365 suite - people will start to use it as an online collaboration tool more and more in their everyday work. Meaning the old-school desktop types will change a bit, but you'll also have the start-ups on board. UX is king!

You're doing great work - this is just a request for a temporary change of focus  (from a huge Excel fan )

Not sure how popular is Automation, but that's great addition to desktop version. Show Changes - if within the pane we may undo this or that change that will be great.
