Edge browser with chromium engine would be a different browser ?  will it support older java script code (IE Compatibility Mode 5) ? Is it the right time to convert java script code with IE Compatibility mode to Chromium supported code (JS Syntax migration) ?

Actually they develop IE mode for the new edge so in one clic it will use the engine of internet explorer you can test it with
edge://flags/#edge-internet-explorer-integration
edge://flags/#edge-internet-explorer-mode-development

Migrating to a modern platform is always the right time moving forward.

But you can leverage Microsoft Edge Internet Explorer mode to help you during this transition. IE mode will support all document modes available in IE11, ActiveX controls, BHO's.

Documentation on configuring IE mode can be found here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/DeployEdge/edge-ie-mode
