Disable pop-up banner advertising Edge for Business in Edge 116

Iron Contributor

Hello,

We are using Edge with non-removable Entra ID profiles and have MSA login disabled via the RestrictSigninToPattern policy.

Does anyone know if there are any policies available that will prevent Edge from displaying this banner when users in the above circumstances open Edge 116 for the first time?

Since the Edge for Business profile switching is not going to be available for my users, I'd prefer they didn't see a banner advertising the feature.

Thanks!

Andrew

Thanks Gunnar. We already had HideFirstRunExperience applied, but not SpotlightExperiencesAndRecommendationsEnabled. Unfortunately, it looks like neither policy prevents this banner.

@AndrewSAIF I'm in the same boat. I'm guessing this was an oversight. We don't want pop-up banners of any kind.

I should clarify for anyone attempting to reproduce the issue - in my testing, the initial home page load does not produce the banner, but the second page load does.

@AndrewSAIF Hi!  This banner can now be controlled using the PromotionalTabsEnabled policy.  This update is mentioned in the Stable Version: 117.0.2045.31 Release Notes (Microsoft Edge release notes for Stable Channel | Microsoft Learn).  Thanks!

Hi Kelly, thanks for the update. Appreciate the team getting this solved. Do you know if this will be backported to Extended Stable 116 or is this something I can look forward to in 118?

Andrew

@AndrewSAIF Hi!  Unfortunately, I have not heard anything about it being backported.  But in v118 it should be totally removed!

Thanks Kelly. I know this was not your decision, but here is my feedback - at my organization, our Information Security group is not going to allow us to stay on Edge 114 when Edge 116 remediates CVE-2023-4863. Therefore all 1200 of my users will get upgraded to 116 and see this banner. By the time 118 comes out, it won't be as much of a concern for me.

It would be nice if we could decouple these major feature updates from security updates. That was the allure of Extended Stable for us, but since these big features are coming on even-numbered releases anyway, it doesn't make much of a real-world difference for us.

Thanks for following up, I do appreciate the communication even if it is not great news.

Andrew

@AndrewSAIF Appreciate the feedback!  I will be sure to pass it along to the team.

@Kelly_Y I really want to express my deep concerns about this not being backported. We are using non-persistent Citrix Sessionhost to publish an app to our endusers. This app can open websites in Edge so these users will get this banner each time to login again because they are then on a brand new system for them.
So if I am correct we now will have to wait till 118 comes out, I can not find any details on when 118 will go into the stable channel. Do you know when this will be?

@Marco78 Stable 118 should (hopefully) be going out today.  Here is the release schedule: Microsoft Edge release schedule | Microsoft Learn.  Thanks!
