Now that the holidays are behind us, our bodies can start
recovering from the food
and our
favorite holiday albums
are already gathering dust until next year. Before we get too deep into the new year, however, I want to briefly reflect on
the progress IT made in 2014
, as well as the progress we made at Microsoft in Enterprise Mobility Management.
(Spoiler alert: I believe that the teams I am responsible for delivered more value and innovation during the last 12 months than in
any
other year of my career.)
There were no shortage of challenges, surprises, and volatility in 2014, but I believe the IT industry is in a stronger position than ever before. Over the last 12 months I have spent hundreds of hours with CEO’s, CIO’s, analysts, and media – and I heard a pretty consistent point of view emerging: The IT team is no longer a necessary expense that just keeps the e-mail flowing, it is
now recognized as a critical component of any organization’s success
.
Sure, this is something all of us have known for years – but it has been really exciting to see this point of view acknowledged so broadly. The understanding that a business simply cannot be great without an all-star IT organization is a huge step forward.
IT is genuinely recognized as a source of innovation and efficiency
.
Seeing these perspectives change, and seeing the impact it has on your careers, is what motivates my team and I to keep building the best IT products in the world. In 2014, we were able to deliver quite a few game-changing products and services.
Early
in the year, Microsoft
announced the Enterprise Mobility Suite
– a release that marked our breakthrough into enterprise mobility market. The response to EMS has been huge, and it has set the tone for more to come.
The year
ended
with three big events: A
monumental set of updates to Intune
, the integrated solutions with the Office mobile apps, and the much-anticipated
GA of Azure RemoteApp
. You can watch a detailed overview of these releases
here
.
Here’s a quick list of the tools and resources we’ve put into market this year:
There are thousands (and often millions) of hours of work behind each of those bullets, and I’m so excited these tools are available for you to use today. All told, we saw some pretty incredible adoption of our Enterprise Mobility solutions across the industry –
400% growth
in just one year.
Looking forward to an even better 2015!
