We are excited to announce the Champion Management Platform coming later this month! As we put the final touches on version 1, we wanted to ensure you had awareness of the platform and what was coming as part of it.

Champions are our heartbeat, and we are excited to be able to deliver a set of tools aimed at helping you manage, scale, and inspire your teamwork champions to achieve even more. This solution is built to be lightweight and easy to customize so you can fit it into your program however it is best suited.

The Champion Management Platform is built on the SharePoint framework and loaded directly into Microsoft Teams. You can load it to an existing champion team or deploy a new team template specifically for champions and load the solution there. Let's talk about the three main components of the platform in this version.

Champion management and nomination

champion-management-and-nomination.jpg

The first part of this toolset aims to help manage the champions in your organization by keeping a list of members, enabling the ability to signup new champions, and providing an approval system to onboard new members into the champion program.

Leaderboard

champion-management-platform-leadership.jpgThe Leaderboard allows you to track campaigns across the champion group. You will be able to define the types of actives and point values. Champions will be able to see their ranking from a global perspective, based on people near them in location, as well as the specialty they have assigned.

Digital Badge

champion-management-platform-digital-badge.jpg

The Digital Badge allows you to easily overlay a teamwork champion badge over your profile image for display across the Microsoft 365 solutions. Showcasing this badge helps to identify champions and provide a bit of recognition for their contributions to the role.

We can not wait to hear how you leverage this platform the drive results in your own champion programs. Let us know your feedback and ideas on how we can improve, and thank you for everything you do!

This is a great addition!  Thank you!  Can the fields in the Member List be customized?  For example, can I add a field to store "Site/Facility"?  Also, is there a connection back to Active Directory to populate the fields in the form that may already be stored in AD, like Country?  I know this is just v1, so no worries if these are things that might come later.  Great work to you and the team!

What a great tool. I can't wait to hear more about it!

I have a meeting tomorrow with my customer to prep for redoing their whole Champions program.  Their new program kicks off next week.  It would be very timely if we can introduce this to them.  Can I get an early release?

Iron Contributor

I can't wait for this. We're in the middle of building our champion program  now.

Copper Contributor

We are just looking into developing a champion program and community and this tool will make it easier to sell to our sponsor

Copper Contributor

Wow, great tool. Building two different Champion programs for two customers. Thanks for this kind of support.

Look forward to getting more information on the platform!! Sounds like a great asset for many organisations.

This looks awesome! I'd like to see it in action. Any reason the March Champions meeting is not available to watch?

Hi all,

This morning I started to explore this new awesome tool! I have created a team, added some champions and started to create some events. It took me a while to set it up but I would like to share this with you. Maybe to inspire you, but hopefully to give me some feedback aswell. (sorry for the dutch screenshots btw, but I hope it is clear enough)

What i did. I created a SharePoint page with the general introduction/explanation of this new tool for my client. On this page I created some guidelines.

  1. Where to find the champions platform;
  2. How to become a champions;
  3. How to record an event;
  4. How to claim your badge.

Besides that I created a list with all the events/programs I created with extra information and hyperlinks to forms/websites, stream-video's or simple tasks they can perform to earn points:

Is this a way to go? Or do you maybe have examples that could inspire me?

Thank you in advance!

Microsoft

@Mark_Sonntag - you could add new fields to capture additional details, absolutely! In V1 there is no connection to/from AAD though for those account details that may already be there

@AJaySutton / @Jack Leathers / @Tanya Caruana / @Matt_TheTrust / @danielep / @JoTeirney - thanks for the messages! This solution is now live, please try it out and let us know what you think. https://aka.ms/m365cmp

@Kathybh - the call should be available on the resources page, if it's not playable please reach out to me over DM!

Microsoft

@Maurits-Mes_1986 - wow!! Thanks so much for sharing the above! I love seeing this and it's absolutely how we envision and hopefully see some of the solution successes in helping drive a Champion program! How has your response been?

@Josh Leporati, so far we introduced it to a key-users group. They are very positive about the concept as a whole and how things are visualised, and they love the 'gaming aspect' of it. But they are afraid that people won't take te neccesary step to record and event (or forget to do so). What we are going to try is to automate this process with a submit button directly from the overview of programs. This will make it a lot easier since the recording of an event is a bit 'hidden' at the bottom of the page within the leader board. (a lot of clicks)

The champion badge was also a discussion. They would like to see that you only get a batch when you reached a certain level or amount of points, for example. Instead of being able to claim it, just by participating in the program.

Any thoughts? :)

Copper Contributor

@Josh Leporati I've installed the package as is for testing purpose, but the "Member List" (only this list)... has been created in the SharePoint root site, and not in the sites/ChampionManagementPlatform/. Can be an issue.. or by design?

Thanks

Daniele

Microsoft

@danielep - that is as design for this release.

Microsoft

@Maurits-Mes_1986 - great feedback on the process for recording events - I'd be interested to hear how that automation goes as well!

On the badging, we've heard that as well. Since the solution is open source we may see some others take and deliver that - our hope is it inspires just that! We'll also look into that for a v2 release.

Keep me in the loop with how it continues to go, thanks for giving it a chance and intro'ing to community!

Thanks for sharing.

Got the platform installed today. Great tool!

Hi,

Is it by design, you can only see 1 hundred champions in the app?

Can you advise how to see more than 1 hundred champions?

Thank you for your help.

Hello Adeline - My last message from Josh was that Microsoft was working on a solution to allow more than 100 champions on their program. As of now, the platform will only function for the first 100 people in your member list, regardless if they are an owner or not. Hopefully, Microsoft will have a solution in place soon.

@Scarlett725 MS has released version 1.3 and the issue is addressed in that. I think it helps if GitHub indicates what all permissions are required from the Azure/Teams side to update the profile picture. Many organizations do not allow picture updates from Teams/Azure due to AD write back security.
Copper Contributor

Hi @Josh Leporati

I have deployed the app. We had AD write back restrictions, but now it is resolved and users can change their Teams profile picture from Teams.

But we are getting an error on the app while applying the profile picture change, “There was an error applying the updated profile image to your account. Please try closing all browser windows and try again. If the error persists please start a new conversation on the General channel of the program's Team.

I have tried to change the picture pixel to 91 x 91 pixels, checked the Teams client log, closed all browsers, teams and re-launched, but nothing yet worked.

Any advise to identify or troubleshoot the issue would really help.

Thanks,

Raj

I had deployed the package file and want to change the text of CMP according to organization. If yes, please let me know in which file we can changes the text.

We have deployed the latest version of CMP last month. We created a MS for champion nomination and used a power automate flow to populate the member list based on the inputs in the form. When i approve the newly added members through member list directly or through CMP they are not able to see the icons of leaderboard, badge, etc. in CMP but when i add them as a champion directly from CMP app it works absolutely fine. We really need immediate support with this as we cannot add champions manually from app every time. Any help will be much appreciated.

I scheduled a meeting to talk about deploying this for our Early Adopters program, but unfortunately, the link to this is broken. I tested it a few days back, and it was fine. I had a Sr. VP on the call. She would like a demo of this. Can someone help me out please by demoing this in a meeting for her and some other leaders?

The link above in the article doesn't work, and it doesn't work on the champion page.

Thank you,

Mica
