Top feedback summary for September 17

Microsoft

Note: This is no longer the most recent top feedback summary. You can always find the latest at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback.

Hey everyone, here is this week’s update to the top feedback list. Today I’d like to call out two topics which have been addressed:

  • We fixed a bug where some website consent was being flipped upside down after switching tabs. The issue was with HTML <canvas> elements, and led to some amusing outcomes like upside down Bing maps.
  • We’ve also addressed reports that the sign-in profile picture can become stale, not updating in Microsoft Edge when it’s updated on your MSA profile. This should be resolved now, and you should see profile picture updates within a day.

Thanks for all the great feedback, and do keep it coming!

Why do you need reading list? Why not use bookmarks/favourites?

I never see that in the Feedback Hub. In fact, the Feedback Hub is the worst. Generally, GitHub is my preferred method of providing feedback.

Well Google Chrome has the same behaviour. It lets you use your Google account's picture or another one.
I tend to delete files when I'm done with them lol
but um that has 0 benefit for microsoft
but Windows can detect when a device has a touchscreen. It already changes things like the system tray.
there's a setting to ask you where you want to save your files :)

Reading List saves articles offline so that you can read them on the move. So, if you read something interesting on your laptop at home, you can add it to the reading list and continue reading it when you’re on the train, even without an internet connection.

When logged into a Microsoft account it also means that you can sync your Reading List to other Windows 10 devices, such as a Windows 10 Mobile, so you can read it on the move too.

I could say the same about Microsoft account or Facebook account. Facebook has 2 Billions users in the world. so should Microsoft add Facebook login to the Edge browser?

there is absolutely no need for google sign in. google users, if they don't have Microsoft account, can create one with their google account. they don't even need to create a new email address to have a Microsoft account.

Microsoft has already made it super easy for everyone to enjoy their products.

@pneenkoalabear

Exactly.

let Google first add Microsoft sign-in to their Chrome browser. I bet they don't even consider it.

Can the edge team please make the InPrivate icon look like how it was in old edge and internet explorer by making it blue? It's more appealing and less dull if it was like how old edge and internet explorer was like.

I wish it was possible to create multiple InPrivate sessions, each session separate from the others, so we could use different logins in websites without them communicating with each other. each InPrivate mode session could have a different color. blue, purple, green etc.

there are extensions that manage logins and sessions but it would be great to build this into the browser. it's not gonna make it heavy or anything, the technology is already there, just needs a little modification.

all the tabs inside an InPrivate window would be part of the same session and share cookies but different InPrivate windows would not be able to communicate with each other and each would have separate sessions and cookies.

I know that Feedback Hub and Github are both for Microsoft, but Github is not used mostly for feedbacks, and it only covers open source programs. Windows however is not open source, Feedback hub plays a great role in Windows insider program. I can't imagine Insider program without Feedback hub app, a place to post bugs and the app can record and allow us to recreate the problem to attach the diagnostic to the Feedback.

also now Feedback Hub app offers language translation so users with other main language than English can help translate new Windows feature texts to their own language, or fix a translation error.

Those files should be downloaded to a temporary folder and then deleted by the system.
This saves time
Yeah

@David Rubino

Enable Microsoft account login from the browser web page (instead of/ in addition to using  windows 10 UI ), just like chrome does for google login.

at  work all Microsoft account login is blocked by the company's group policy, and hence I am unable to use login to browser at all at my work.

"I think they should add google sign-in, just because there are many people using google account." You can of course create a Microsoft account using your gmail account, but it will still be a Microsoft account. I think people are expecting to be able to use their Google account without creating a Microsoft account, but the issue with this request is user expectations. ie. If you allow a Google sign in, are users going to expect favourites to be synced with Google Chrome? Is that even possible?

Hmm, how does one use Microsoft products and then block Microsoft access on them?!

which group policy even does that?

@HotCakeX Not everyone likes Win10. ;)

I've been on Win7 Ultimate since it was released, and I like the ability to schedule my Windows Updates for when I know I will be asleep, and I like the colored icons in the Win7 user interface. When I did move up to Win10 (during the "free upgrade" period), Windows Update would run whenever the h*** it wanted (just because I went afk for 5 minutes did not mean I intended to be offline for 30 minutes!), which meant it was rebooting when I still had unsaved data in a program. Plus the Win10 user interface is too blocky, its icons too easily confusable for those of us with less than stellar eyesight.

As long as I can continue to run Win7, I'll happily give up Cortana as I don't need it anyway. But please don't assume EVERYONE wants to move to Win10 for something that COULD be backported to 7 if Microsoft saw enough of a market to make it worthwhile. :)

@JenniferB_ In Windows 10, on your update settings page, you can specify your "Active Hours" during which Windows will not update and restart.  Not sure if that option was there from day one, but it's there now.
