Top Feedback Summary for October 6

Microsoft

Note: This is no longer the most recent top feedback summary. You can always find the latest at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback.

Greetings, Insiders! We have several things moving around this week. In case you missed it last week, we gave a brief update on history (and open tab) sync. As mentioned, we’re keeping it set to Planned for Summer until out next update. As a general reminder, we mark items as Planned for … when we expect features or work done to address the feedback to appear in Canary. We have our status definitions below the feedback items. Let’s jump into our other updates!

We have a couple items getting months added to their Planned status. Bring the tab preview feature from the current version of Microsoft Edge is moving to Planned for November. This week we did disable Chrome’s hover cards, so if you are missing that in this week’s update this would be why. We are also moving Support themes from the Chrome Web Store to Planned for October. Keep an eye out for our next updates on these items!

While we don’t have a time frame to share, we moved Edge should respect the default PDF viewer from Under Review to Planned. Once we have more details about what this change would mean for you, we’ll share them here!

That’s it for this week! We’ll chat at you more about your top feedback items next week.

seems identical like last week

September's over honey. it's now October and some of your items are still not ready!
In your table above it would be nice if We could get a column that says expected for and then the edge build number that it is expected to help determine the expected release of some of the features.
Let's get some of the easier things out of the way.

If Edge does not bring over some of the key features from the Legacy edge and internet explorer you will have some very unhappy costumers when the next version of Windows 10 gets released with the New edge being the default browser. and I mean very unhappy!

@MissyQ

can we bring some of the PDF features to the list as well

Agree

@Omar-Os

Agree
What is up with the horrific JPEG view in Microsoft Edge?

@MissyQ

Thanks for the update!

I'm glad to hear you disabled chrome's tab preview and are working on bringing Edge's original tab previews to the new browser, that'd be great.

I think you can mark:

Add the ability to ink on web page content

as Addressed because it's available on Dev and Canary channels :smile:

Once, I heard a story from someone involved with software development. He stated that marking some progress inside big tech companies is really painful because of the many bureaucracy walls after every single step. I think this is what is happening here, this team of developers does not have the freedom to go ahead and do whatever they think is best for the company, but instead need to wait for the Microsoft umbrella for approval and consent. I know nothing about software development, but in view of the long waiting times for just minimal and basic changes is obvious that they have no control over their decisions.

@MissyQAre there plans to enable touch screen compatibility in the Windows version of Chromium Edge? Specifically:

  • Fix press-and-hold right-click bugs
    • Pressing and holding in page content doesn't currently trigger the square to indicate when a right-click has been activated
    • Pressing and holding in the toolbar triggers the square to indicate a right-click, but it doesn't go away
  • Ability to reorder toolbar items (favorites and extensions) with touch
  • Ability to drag text (into a new tab, into text boxes, or into Collections) with touch
  • Modify controls that appear only on hover (e.g. selection tool in Collections and delete button on autofill items) so that they appear all the time so they can be selected with touch (a workaround for the Collections issue to make a "select" button to show the select buttons)
  • Fix text selection behavior to match that of the Windows system and other Windows apps (where tapping a word only once will select it, instead of the current behavior where you have to press and hold and it also shows the right-click menu) for consistency and improved user experience

Classic Edge was great for touch screens, and it's a shame to see that there has been no improvement whatsoever in this area.

I don't think it's that.

when we judge the progress of Edge, we shouldn't only see this small list of feature requests, there are a lot of features, improvements, new small details being added to Edge every week. majority of the new features that I see and notice in Edge either are not on this list**, which suggests the developers have their own set of rules and schedules to follow for implementing new features, or they are already in Edge but due to some reasons, they are not marked off as "addressed" in this list.

that is just one aspect of it, there could be others such as technical limitations, the fact that Edge developers need to stay in pace with Chromium updates and follow them etc etc.

so yes, don't think it's "lack of freedom" and "corporate bureaucracy" in this case.

I'm pretty happy with the rate at which they are adding new features to this browser, actually very impressed, not gonna lie.

I see Firefox, pretty dead browser in terms of new features, once every few months they add something.

I see Chrome, ever since Microsoft started this new Edge project, they realized in order not to fall behind, they should step up their game and introduce more features to the browser. still not doing it as fast as Microsoft though but faster than Firefox for sure, and most of their new features are exact copy of Edge which is funny.

Explain more? maybe a screenshot? which Edge version/channel?

@HotCakeX Just look how bad it is compared to the PDF viewer

@ethanmenzel

I don't see anything in that screenshot you uploaded suggesting any problem with JPEG display in Edge.

also can you please not comment spam? you could easily merge those 3 comments into 1.

this spam sends me and others who subscribed and commented on this thread, unnecessary Emails and notifications. thanks
