Top Feedback Summary for October 15

Microsoft

Note: This is no longer the most recent top feedback summary. You can always find the latest at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback.

Hey, Insiders! As we get ready to move Edge 88 into our Dev channel, this week’s update for your top feedback is pretty light. Let’s jump into what we have!

We are updating the status of Voice search on google.com doesn’t work from Planned for September to Planned for November. We have been hard at work to improve this feature and you can currently turn it on via command line in Canary. However, there is more work for us to complete in this space before it’s in both Dev and Canary channels by default. Keep an eye out for more updates in the future on this!

Additionally, you may have spotted in last week’s blog about What’s New in Web Experiences, users can now install themes in Edge! This week, we’re marking Support themes from the Chrome Web Store as Addressed. To use themes from other stores, remember to head to edge://extensions and turn on the setting in the bottom left to Allow extensions from other stores.

We’ll see you all for next week’s update!

Here’s the updated list for this week:

@MissyQ  Thanks!

@MissyQ

Good stuff, thank you!

by the way, could you please let the team know about this,

now that we can install Chrome themes on Edge, I think now we need a separate page such as edge://extensions/ but for themes to view all of our installed themes and to be able to delete/enable/disable any of them.

an internal Edge page like: edge://themes/

at the moment, it is possible to install multiple themes on Edge but that keeps the previously installed themes in the browser and won't remove them, neither does it give any option to the user to remove any non-active themes. the files still reside in the browser directory.

@HotCakeX I don't have any themes myself. Do they not appear on the edge://downloads page? If they don't, I agree, a space for being able to uninstall them fully is a great idea. Remember to submit the feedback through the browser, let me know when you do so that I can share it with the team. :3

@MissyQ

I actually did it, 7 months ago :smile:

here explained with pictures that why it's needed, nothing has changed since then, still same behavior.

Helpful Feedbacks about 3rd party Theme installation/management in Edge and required UI changes - Mi...

I will just send another feedback now and put the title of that post along with a link to it in the feedback.

Thanks again!

@MissyQ

Ok here we go again:

A new release and all the problems are still there, after almost 1.5 years of reporting..

- Middle click mouse button on tabs bar to open a new tab.

- Drag a tab to the favorites bar to quickly add it there.

- Dark Mode for PDFs reading specially if the pages are scanned.

- Move the "Force Dark Mode for Web Contents" from "Flags" to "Appearance" in Settings and let us customize the websites that we want to enable or disable it on them.

- Everything in my PC is in dark mode, even the "Force Dark Mode for Web Contents"
But somehow every time I open Edge I get this white page for a few seconds that blinds me for like a minute... and every new page I open it loads in white page until the page opens.. and if the website or my connection is slow then that stupid useless white loading screen stays for longer and I have to look away until it's done loading............

- When everything is using dark mode and "Force Dark Mode for Web Contents" is enabled, All icons and buttons turns to dark grey which are almost not visible at all!
https://imgur.com/ICpYsDC

-"Ask users if they want to close all tabs when they close a browser window"
Why this isn't added yet????

-And when is this going to be fixed so I can actually move to Edge?????
https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/discussions/importing-firefox-history-amp-passwords/m-p/13990...

-And where is the History Sync ??????
You promised almost a year ago that this will release this summer which is already over now, not to mention that you promise last year to add it in the first official stable build back in Jan 2020.. Don't make promises you can't keep.

I mean what's even changed in these new releases when nothing is actually added or fixed ?????

I'll keep sending this feedback until these are added/fixed since you almost never do anything at all from what we report or request.

your answer is this:

Dev channel update to 87.0.664.8 is live - Microsoft Tech Community

Any updates for history sync across multiple devices? It's said "Summer" for a while now, and we're definitely past the threshold of summer at this point

@MissyQ

I have another suggestion.

About open the favourite

I'd like to add a feature that allows you to open favorites in a new tab with a single left mouse button, instead of covering the current using page. I know that using the CTRL or middle mouse button can solve the problem, but the user experience is not good. Thank you.

@Omar-Os

While it's not obvious and it took awhile before I found it, if you put the pointer over the 'lock' icon at the beginning of the address bar in a tab, then click and hold and drag, you will see you have 'lifted' the tab title and URL and you can drop the page onto the favourites bar and have that appear as a favourite there. If you drag it over a folder on the favourites bar, it will make the new favourite appear in that folder. If you drag it over a folder and hover for a moment, then the folder dropdown menu will open, and you can carry on dragging to release the new favourite exactly where you want in the list, or in a sub-folder etc.

@DavidGB
Thank you!!!!
This is a great find! I don't know why they are hiding this and never mentioned it !!!
Hopefully they will apply it to the tabs themselves later, but I guess I'll be crossing this from my list for now, Thank you so much again!

Interesting. I hope they also add the ability to use tabs to add to the favorite bar. That would be a lot more intuitive.

@Alexei_Drekker

there is a star button in the address bar, click/touch it and that does the same thing you want.

@MissyQ

I am wondering is there any plan to make Microsoft Edge touch friendly?

We have report where users who are using Windows on tablet (like tablet mode) are not able to interact with menus easily, because icons are small and not touch friendly.

Expected result would be like when device is in tablet mode, it shows larger icon or have ability to set bigger icons in settings.

I asked users to file the issue through Feedback option, I am wondering is it also in your radar?

Yes. Touch Screen adjustments are quite important. Using Windows as a tablet basically means Edge is going to very difficult.
Anyone who can tell me the definition of "Summer"?

I can tell you that.

on planet Earth, In the Northern Hemisphere, summer takes place from the summer solstice (usually June 21) until the autumnal equinox (typically Sept. 21).

Summer in the Southern Hemisphere typically takes place between Dec. 22 and March 20.

@HotCakeX but that's only on planet Earth. Maybe the developers live on Mars where seasons are way longer.

Nah Elon Musk said we'd be there by around 2030

@cazafurcias42  Like @HotCakeX has said nobody has ever been to Mars. Am I right? But the one thing I know is that without an astro-suit you can't survive there. Anyway, this is veering off-topic. Right, @Eric Starker?
