Top feedback summary for October 1

Hey everyone, I’m back with the latest top feedback summary. This week we’d like to highlight a few things which have been addressed:

The New Tab Page (we call it the “NTP” within the team) has received a significant update, and among the changes are two which address some of our top feedback items. First, the NTP now supports dark theme. If you are in dark theme (available in Settings under Appearance) you will see that the search box, top sites, and feed use darker colors. Additionally we’ve enabled greater customization of NTP content that allows you to turn off the feed if you wish. Just click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the NTP and choose Custom page layout. If you choose the Content visible on scroll option, the feed will only show if you scroll down on the NTP. If you choose the Content off option, your feed will be disabled entirely.

Another top request was for ClickOnce functionality, which among other things allows one-click installation of  certain applications on Windows. This is chiefly a feature in work or school environments, so it is controlled by the new ClickOnceEnabled group policy. However, if you’d like to enable it on your device directly, you can browse to edge://flags and search for “ClickOnce” to find the ClickOnce Support flag. For more information on ClickOnce and the similar DirectInvoke feature, see our documentation at: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/DeployEdge/edge-learn-more-co-di.

@David Rubino Hope chromium edge can add this function:

right click the selected text in the webpage can give multiple selections of search engine.

Agreed, it is much better than Google Chrome, but still there are rounded corners around current tab, it doesn't look consistent when you are using Microsoft products for many years. It causes illusion of (or actual) space wastage. Further, it is replacement of Original Edge, so it should retain best of UI like square tabs, scrollable tabs when there are large number of tabs, Fluent, preview of tabs, Set Aside, etc. YMV.

Could you be more specific as to how a tiny little (1 pixel) of rounded corner can cause such a Huge inconsistency that you're referring to?

and which other programs will be inconsistent if the Edge insider keeps its (1 pixel) curves that are barely noticeable?

@basil3143, rounded corners are becoming part of Windows 10 and Microsoft in general, so I wouldn't worry about consistency.

Yes exactly, if anything, most modern programs are going towards smooth edges and not sharp edges. (not talking about Microsoft only but everyone including Microsoft). the rounded corners are smooth edges are the new trend

Thanks, @David Rubino for this update.  Glad to know that PDF inking is finally coming!  As for OneNote Web Clipper, the experience is still not as good as using the Add notes feature in Edge classic.

@Jude Wong What did you do/what flags are on that give you the onenote web clipper?

If you feel it is tiny 1px, better it gets removed. It is easily noticeable to me. There are many apps like Outlook, Office apps, Visual Studio to name a few. And yes that is causing huge inconsistency and making UI unbearable.

@basil3143

"Please make the tabs and In Private indicator not rounded like in original Edge. Thanks"

InPrivate indicator in Canary.

@dustytravel It's already square in the latest Canary version (79.0.300.0):

InPrivate indicator in Canary.

Hi @cjc2112,

You can install it from the Chrome Web Store at https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/onenote-web-clipper/gojbdfnpnhogfdgjbigejoaolejmgdhk.  No need to turn on any flag.

However, before that, ensure the Extensions setting "Allow extensions from other stores" is enabled in your Edge Chromium browser.

Hope this helps.

@basil3143

Something that needs a magnifier to be even noticeable is not causing inconsistency, you're just focusing at it too much. the browser has a lot of other things to deal with at its current state. the UI is not final. better focus on missing features, sync options unavailable, bugs, performance etc and once they add fluent design elements then consistency will come with it

Not the tabs.

@David Rubino

All things look good but don't make the address bar and other things smaller like in Chrome. It's less touch friendly and the feedback is ignorant plus it would make it harder to read what's up there.
