Top feedback summary for November 14

Microsoft

Note: This is no longer the most recent top feedback summary. You can always find the latest at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback.

Hey everyone, here’s the latest on the top feedback we’re hearing from you.

We’ll start this week with scrolling, where we've landed work to bring an initial set of scrolling “personality” improvements into Anaheim. These improvements focus on the distance scrolled, the animations used to scroll, and some improvements with “bounce” on pen and touch devices. We have more scrolling improvements coming, both performance and personality, and because scrolling smoothness continues to be top feedback, we’ll be sure to let you know whenever something changes.

Two new items this week as well:

First, when we released the new Microsoft Edge icon last week, many of you encountered a bug where the new icon wasn’t showing in the taskbar. We got quite a few reports of this, and we fixed it up and deployed an update a couple of days later. Thanks for your patience as we worked out the kinks there, and if you’re still seeing the old icon anywhere, let us know.

Second, there is a new request to be able to keep specific cookies around even if you choose to clear browsing data when closing the browser. Many of you are asking for this kind of targeted control so you can clear general browsing data but keep cookies that track important state for your most frequently used and trusted sites. We’ll look into this and get back to you on the topic as soon as possible.

Finally, we're investigating the ask to bring inking capabilities to web pages, like those found in the current version of Microsoft Edge. To start this effort, we're hosting a discussion here on the forum. Please stop by and let us know what you'd like to see in the inking space.

Why all this diversity

While Microsoft Edge remained an orphan

Is it a fatal blow to the enemies of Microsoft Edge

Because about a year and a half ago we noticed that Microsoft Edge has returned many steps back in the interest of certain parties without regard to the user's permission

Or is it going in the same direction?

This is without mentioning Microsoft Recovery

after reading this i have so many questions now ( ͡• ͜ʖ ͡• )

what do they mean exactly? orphan, diversity, Microsoft recovery and enemies of Edge?

Please put this on top priority: Browsing history sync with Windows Timeline.
And please don't waste time on Google account login support as almost all replies are against this feature and it is also not of any use for us who don't want to use chrome.

@David Rubino

I agree with the other users who think the browser should not be integrated so much with Google.

And if you do not want to lose loyal customers you should add all the distinctive functionalities that Classic Edge had.

For example, how come one of the most liked discussion on the community (https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Discussions/Add-the-epub-reader-from-EdgeUWP-to-Edge-Chromium...) is not among the top priorities? Please, explain to me!

It's added to the settings page with this message: "Coming soon! We'll turn it on as soon as it's ready"
I see it on Canary but Dev should see it too. anyway, it should be activated until January

@David RubinoDavid, there is a small issue in Chromium's smooth scrolling that Google hasn't really gotten around to fixing, maybe the Edge team will do it? Please take a look https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=586665

@David Rubino Thank you for the summary! I see that excess CPU usage is a known issue. I'd like to draw your attention to this thread which suggests that, at least on MacOS, it may be related to the Defender SmartScreen feature; disabling that feature worked for me and CPU usage is now back to normal/acceptable levels.

@David Rubino

Thank you for the feedback roundup and response.

Just to reiterate one of my scrolling gripes in my post previously:

Scrolling with two fingers up and down on a touchpad (Windows Precision Touchpad) sometimes results in the page moving (jumping) horizontally too. Might be due to the angle of which I am scrolling in, but I've never encountered this issue on any other browsers on the same laptop. Suggestion to lock scrolling to only vertical scroll if a certain velocity is achieved.

Thanks again

BTW, since this is no longer the most recent summary, maybe un-pin it and pin the latest edition?
