Top Feedback Summary for July 15

Microsoft

Note: This is no longer the most recent top feedback summary. You can always find the latest at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback.

Hey, Insiders! We had a wonderful summer (in the northern hemisphere) break over the past two weeks, but we're back now with our regularly scheduled updates. Let’s get to it!

First, we’re quite excited to announce that Add option to remove previous search terms from the New Tab Page’s search box auto-suggestion list is moving to Planned! While we don’t have much to share in terms of how this will be done, the team is planning how to address this for you all.

Additionally, during our break the team implemented the Highlighter tool for PDF files. We are marking this as Addressed. To access the highlighter, open a PDF in Microsoft Edge. At the top right, you will see the new option for Highlight. Click the drop-down arrow at the right of the button to select the desired color of the highlighter. Eraser is also supported on highlights. Tapping on Erase button and dragging across a highlight will remove it from the text. We have pen support coming soon.

We do still have more updates coming to the PDF reader, you can find out more about those in our PDF roadmap. We are always looking to hear from you, so let us know what you think of this tool and other changes you’d like to see with PDFs over on that thread. Additionally, submitting any feedback through the browser itself gets your thoughts and suggestions to the team.

This week we are also closing out two items as Not Planned, and one as our new status Alternative Planned. These three are around Fluent design, and we provided an update on our plans here. Let us know your thoughts on this update in the thread!

As always, thanks so much to you all for helping us shape Edge into the browser you want. We’ll see you next week!

waiting for fluent design !
Provide transparent theme not planned..even though it's among the top features people are asking for and live those suggestions.
Fluent design can have transparency levels. just like what we see in Windows 10, in the new Xbox app, in the new Windows Terminal, in Office 365 and many other areas.

@SayanBhar Yes it's the most wanted feature. The current edge version is very laggy. With the fluent design, I hope to see the browser as polished one like telegram in android. Telegram is a very polished app and seems no lag at all even in very low-end smartphones whereas the WhatsApp lags.

Same is the case with Microsoft edge. Edge always lags in opening a new tab, scrolling on history/favourites page is very hurting, when you search for the cookies in view all cookies page performance hurts a lot - searching always takes place on the input thread while it should be on an independent thread. The threads aren't properly taken care of in the browser. Most important thing is that there is GUI is still pixellated on the screen in these days of reusable GUI being prominent and responsive. Also, to increase responsiveness of the current browser the GUI should be made available in certain scenarios where it can be before starting to perform background operations.

It has been an awesome journey till now, but there has not been done much. The edge chromium is just the duplex of chrome browser. There may be some new features in the edge chromium but in terms of performance its still the same. Moreover these days I felling the chrome canary as being more responsive.

@MissyQ

Any plans to keep developing the global media controls. It worked fine for the majority of the beta then it was moved to flags (likely because it wasn't ready for release), and now when enabled in flags it causes the browser to lock up and freeze. I just want to make sure this super nice feature doesn't get lost in flags forever and never gets finished.

@MissyQ
"Ask users if they want to close all tabs when they close a browser window"
- Everyone needs it and requests it
- It's a crucial feature to have
Yet it's in discussion for 42 weeks and you are totally ignoring it and focusing on other useless features.............

@Omar-Os @MissyQ

I too agree, The other features introduced are useful, but only to part of users(not all) , but the "close all tabs" alert prompt is useful for each and every single user( not leaving even one user), so this should be given priority more than anything because it helps all users.

@Deleted "close all tabs" alert is not useful at all to me. I keep my browsers set to "continue where you left off" which makes the alert useless and would be annoying to see it every time. Nevertheless, if you need it, I don't see why it should not be an option.

@MissyQ Is anyone discussing/working on Collections links always opening in a new tab instead of in the currently active tab? I submitted feedback for this a few months ago. Currently, we have to be careful and manually watch out that we opened a new tab or that contents of the current tab are no longer needed before clicking on a collections link.

In your case it's not, but it is very useful to people who opted for a new tab page at start-up, it keeps us safe from the accidentally closing the window.

Exactly.

the warning before closing all tabs will be useful for me.

@Deleted
Exactly!
In my work I open literally dozens of websites in the same time!
And I write and edit A LOT in wordpress..
And I often click close by a mistake sometimes! So imagine when all this is just GONE and all what I wrote and edited is just GONE because they don't have this little simple important feature ! Not to mention that this is how I count the opening tabs!
I didn't move to Edge yet just because of this missing feature.

@MissyQ thank you for sharing.

Regarding to Alternative Planned, please add some more details about it (when ready). We are curious about how it is going to be addressed.

@MissyQ   Do you have any new information about Edge on Linux -- timetable, packages, and so on?

"Enable sync of browsing history between devices"

Would that include tab sync as well, or is that considered seperate?

"Planned for summer" means, Is it next year!? Someone please tell me

Thank you.

This summer most likely which has started.

@MissyQ Good to see you all back, hope you and the team had a good summer! :smile:
