Top Feedback Summary for February 5

Microsoft

Note: This is no longer the most recent top feedback summary. You can always find the latest at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback.

Hey, Insiders! Welcome to February’s first Top Feedback Summary. Not a lot of changes happening this week, but there are some changes nonetheless.

Both Favorites sync issues, including sync not working, deleted favorites reappearing, and favorites being duplicated and Enable sync of installed browser extensions between devices have been moved to Planned for February. While favorites sync issues have been mostly mitigated, we do still see occasional reports of users running into issues with them.

We have decided to move Opening a new tab is too slow from Under Review to Quality Area. We believe that this item is more in line with quality, meaning this area requires steady, long-term focus and not a one-off fix. In case you missed it last week, we pulled our Quality Areas out of the feedback list and it is now a separate tracking section. Let us know if you feel there’s something we’re missing!

That’s all for this week. We’ll have another update for you all come next week.

Here’s the full updated list:

Is edge stable 80 going to be released this week or next week?
You read my mind, i was wondering the same thing
Chrome 80 stable released today, now I'm note sure whether Microsoft will follow and release the Edge 80 stable out of schedule or they will stick to the schedule and release it 4 weeks later!

@MissyQ  Why no fix for the white flashes? They are so annoying! I use the Canary version on Windows x64. I have the Force Dark Mode for Web Contents flag enabled. Starting Edge, quick white flash. Open a bookmark using the middle click button and quickly clicking on it to view will trigger a white flash. Also, open any website with links on it. Then middle click a few links to send to the background. Close the website tab, which will bring into view the first background tab with a white flash. Each time you close a tab that brings a background tab into view, white flash.

You have emailed me 2 or 3 times saying it was fixed in an upcoming build of Edge. I have patiently waited only to see you fixed a white flash in the Edge Setttings pages. Driving me crazy here. Force Dark Mode should do exactly that, force it. Not white flash me then load dark.

@MissyQ Please, consider adding this feature, which now reached 70+ likes.

I'm pretty sure there aren't many posts here with 70 likes.

@MissyQ Whenever a new tab page is opened, it tries to load the news content and the image, even if the image is already loaded at first and I have news content turned off.

Hi @MissyQ

When you say something is planned for February, does it mean it is planned to land on Canary channel in February or are you targeting a different channel?

Hi,

which channel is it happening on?

@HotCakeX Dev Channel.

@MissyQ Are there any plans to be able to pin the Favorites to the left side of the screen like IE11? I have asked this question about 4 times now since October with no response. I would just like a yes/no answer please.

Also, I have Windows Pro and Edge Chromium does not sync favorites with IE11 even though I have it set in group policy editor.

Which group policy did you set?
all of the policies for the new Edge are in here
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-policies

and there is no mention of anything that syncs favs between IE and Chromium based Edge

@viewdeal2019  Edge Stable 80 was released today!! Check it out, we got our ARM64 support in there. :D

@AccessDenied Can you DM me the exact items that the emails said we resolved? I want to make sure they were directly related to your feedback and not mislabeled internally.

@HotCakeX If you check out the descriptions of our statuses, it states for when we believe it to be fully in Canary. As always, you'll see me update where we are on these weekly. :)

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone!

Awesome news! thanks!

@MissyQ  I sent the DM but it shortens my feedback in the email.

Also anyone testing with dark theme and the force dark mode for web contents flag should be able to reproduce the white flashes.

I abandoned Chrome because after a year, they never read/replied or fixed the white flashes.

Please have the team fix them in Edge. I love this browser so much.

@Deleted

That group policy belongs to legacy Edge, that's what it is referring to.

currently the new Chromium based Edge's policy files are not included by default in Windows 10. you need to get them from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/business/download

So this is basically old Edge with a different lack of features.
now there are 3 ways to sync favorites:
1. using AAD account.
2. using free MSA account.
3. using Group policy to push a predefined set of favorites to all of your employees.

@MissyQ  Is WebNotes planned to come back at some point? That was one of my favorite features of old Edge. Thank you!
