Top Feedback Summary for August 26

Microsoft

Note: This is no longer the most recent top feedback summary. You can always find the latest at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback.

Greetings, Insiders! We have been working hard to bring changes and improvements to the browser. If you haven’t in a while, check out Josh’s update post for more details on what we’ve worked on lately.

There are some things that we consider quality areas in this summary: items that we will continuously work on improving as the browser evolves. One of these items is scrolling in PDFs, and this week we’ve implemented a change that will help with this. Available in our Dev and Canary channels, we introduced our first step to improve the scrolling and responsiveness of PDFs. You can try this out by enabling the feature flag at edge://flags/#edge-smooth-scrolling-enabled-pdf (copy and paste that into your browser’s address bar). If you have any thoughts about this new feature and any changes you notice in your PDF scrolling, please let us know by submitting feedback directly through the browser via the menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback. The team is eager to know your thoughts!

Also new this week is a new item under and one moving to Planned, Add dictionary in PDF and Ask users if they want to close all tabs when they close a browser window. While we don’t have any timeline for when we expect to see these to show up in Canary, you will see any updates we have here.

That’s it for this week! Circle back with us next week to see what updates we have.

@MissyQ

The scrolling in PDFs is definitely much improved, so thank you. However, comparing with Edge Legacy shows you can do better yet. I monitored the CPU usage when scrolling through a PDF fast; in Edge Canary it's twice as high as in Legacy Edge. I also sometimes notice a small lag when zooming in fast on a touchscreen, which I don't notice in Edge Legacy.

@MissyQ
"Ask users if they want to close all tabs when they close a browser window"
Planned for when???????
And it MUST include the number of running tabs just like Firefox! This is the only way I count the running tabs!! And I use this for counting the tabs all the time!

@Omar-Os

There is another simple method to count number of tabs

Just place your mouse on top of edge icon in taskbar, it'll show you how many running tabs were there, This will do the job for you :)

Abhiram_1-1598594004907.png

As you can see in the picture, it says the current page tab name and 5 more pages, so total six.

I hope this solves your problem.

Thank you

@Deleted
Yeah that's helpful, thanks!
But they still need to add the numbers to the warning, it make more sense!
Who knows! Maybe they will remove that tool-tip in the future for no reason...

They won't pull it, if they pull it, then we will ask for that num of tabs in that warning :)
Please make a wide tile for Microsoft Edge in the Windows Start menu
What's the use of a wide tile?
Why not? Is it that hard? If there are already two options, why are they too lazy to add the other two (Wide, Large)?
I am missing one tile so that the start menu would seem full. A wide tile would take the place of two, for example
Be it easy or hard, Why doing things which has no use at all?
If that's the only use you have, why don't you make other apps wide or large, compensating the missing tile you have?
Thank you.

Why then are there Wide and Large tiles for the Calculator? Why did their development team find these sizing options useful? Why there are no general development guidelines for native Microsoft's apps?
We all know that different teams at Microsoft work separately from others and there is no interaction. This is why we can see eight different options for context menus and other chaos in the Windows 10 interface. Hopefully, under the leadership of Panos Panay and after the partial merging of the development teams, Windows will improve slightly.

"Ask users if they want to close all tabs when they close a browser window"

Yes, just add this simple feature, there's nothing to discuss about honestly....

I'd like a wide title too for the Start menu.
@HotCakeX As per my understanding, only UWP apps have wide and large tiles options, so edge won't have, I think it's about Windows not Edge. So you should submit feedback through feedback hub to Windows not Edge.
This is exactly what I wanted to know. It's all about UWP. You made things clear to me. Thanks man!

@MissyQIf it's possible I want edge to directly communicate with the edge mobile to share links instead of via "your phone" app.
