Top Feedback Summary for April 13

Microsoft

Note: This is no longer the most recent top feedback summary. You can always find the latest at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback.

Hey there, Insiders! We have a couple new items we’re adding this week, and shuffling around another one from March to April. Let’s hop into it!

As we continue work on the top sites for the new tab page, we’re updating that status from Planned for March to Planned for April. There have been some Canary Insiders who have spotted this change last month, so continue to send in feedback when you see this update to the new tab page hit your browser!

Two new items this week are around vertical tabs, and both are currently Under Review. Users can organize Vertical Tabs into groups is an item that the team is reviewing to ensure it falls into the same situation as Users can find and manage their tabs more easily by organizing them into associated groups. We’re also adding Users can easily close Vertical Tabs based on feedback from users like yourselves, and the team is reviewing this one. Once we have more information on any of the items that are currently Under Review, we'll share them here!

That’s it for this week! Come back next week to see what gets updated.

Here’s this week’s updated list:

What about chrome:flags/#commander, please? As shown at https://www.computerworld.com/article/3610171/chrome-shortcuts.html

It is something we can't live without on VS Code, and would be very useful in any application! ^_^

Thank you for sharing, I believe not only for Vertical tabs but users would be interested in grouping tabs whether they are horizontal or vertical. I believe the team should also consider horizontal tabs for grouping too.
It's mid April and you guys still didn't deliver the features and the improvements that were set for March....

You can group tabs on vertical and horizontal tab strips.

just need to enable tab group flags edge://flags/

It's April 2021 and it's v90 and the "Warn on close" isn't added yet although it was set for March !! UNBELIEVABLE !!!!

@HotCakeX

Yes but it is inside the Flag and it means still experimental and hope to see it be enable in all releases.

Yes I know, you just said team should consider enabling it for horizontal tabs too, so wanted to let you know they already did it, just still in flags ;)

@MissyQ: "Opening a new tab is too slow"
It would be faster if users could actually choose what a new tab loads when opened. I'd rather either a blank tab, or a custom URL, such as my homepage. I don't see why it's not possible to choose where a new tab goes, other than by having to install an extension. Even Internet Explorer used to let you choose what a new tab loads!

"Update does not always work reliably"
Quite-often you can just hit refresh after an error-message and the update does then go-through successfully. But no-other browser I use seems to ever have an issue updating, only Edge. And my device is running 20H2, so it's not like I have an option to uninstall, reboot, and reinstall as it's treated as a built-in Windows component from 20H2 onwards, so DISM and SFC are your only options to attempt any kind of repair (assuming either does actually service the Edge component?)
You can change what is opened on startup: edge://settings/startHomeNTP

@ajasnz Thanks, but I am already aware that you can make Edge startup to a certain page, and also define your homepage, along with showing the Home icon on the toolbar.  My comment was that Edge should allow users to choose what page is loaded when they click the "New Tab" icon, which is not currently offered, so your comment does not address that

"This policy is available only on Windows instances that are joined to a Microsoft Active Directory domain, Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise instances that enrolled for device management, or macOS instances that are that are managed via MDM or joined to a domain via MCX."

I want this option to just be there as-standard, within the normal Settings menu. So when I go to <edge://settings/newTabPage>, I want options there to let me choose whether a new tab opens to either a custom URL, a blank page, or Microsoft's built-in offering.

Internet Explorer 11 and Firefox both offer the ability to choose where a new tab goes to, I don't see why Edge also can't...

Well, at least they provided the option, just for different type of userbase, maybe the users they received feedback from were mostly organizations.

but if that's still what you want, make sure to send feedback using the feedback button on Edge.

Hello, regarding the global media control flag, it works on sites in the browsers but not on pwa!

@Omar-Os It's in the Dev channel and like every feature, it has to go through the release cycle. It will probably be in the Beta channel next week and in the Stable channel end of May.

I know it's in the Dev channel, but they said it will be out in March!
Releasing it 3 months later is extremely ridiculous !!
No one gives a sh*t about Dev, Canary or Beta!
If it's not in the settings or enabled by default then it's not delivered and not ready!
I'm not going to tell hundreds of customers and friends and family members to use the Dev instead or to the flags and enable the features they want (And they will most likely mess up a lot of things) just because the devs are too lazy to do their job on the time that they set "after too many delays and promises" !!!!

I already look like a fool because I said to people that this feature will be here available in March.. then ok I don't know why they didn't add it in March.. just wait to v90 it will be there for sure... But no, it's still not there and I don't know what to say now.... I just look like a fool now thanks to Edge's team empty promises.

That's not a problem,
more testing is always better. you don't have to promise anyone anything, when you are sure the feature is in Edge stable, then let others know about it. also the community moderator has mentioned many times in her posts that when they say a feature is marked for a date, it means in Canary or Dev. that date never meant for stable channel.
