Please look at this quick video I took, it's from Google Chrome Canary ver 79.
the tabs look stunning, the colors look vivid and it expands to the top of each tab. real nice in my opinion. I would love to see the same thing in Edge insider canary.

Did you have to enable any option or flag? I just installed Chrome Canary 79 and the tabs don't look like yours...

Yes, now you need to right click on one of the tabs and create a new group.
