New Edge Chromium replaces the classic Edge instantly?

Copper Contributor

Hello all,

we are currently unsure about the following topic:

We heared that the Edge based on Chromium will be automatically updated in the next month.

Does that mean that the classic Edge will be removed or does it still stay in the system?

We are asking because our .NET application is still based on Edge and therefore wouldn't work anymore.

Thanks in advance for a feedback!

Best

Stefan

The Microsoft Edge Chromium Windows Update is getting deployed right now but all the users will not get the update at the same time so some computers have got this update and some have not.

Yes, it does mean that Edge Legacy(Classic) will be removed permanently from the system as I am seeing now that the users who are getting Edge Legacy through Windows Update have their uninstall option greyed out in the Settings app.

Hi @TheShaunSaw

thanks for the quick response! I see. As we are only dealing with enterprise accounts, they may be able to delay the rollout of the new Edge. But of course, we cannot rely on that.

Best,
