Microsoft Edge installer has stopped working

I installed the Canary release of Microsoft Edge so that I can incorporate the WebView2 browser control into our product.  However, shortly after launching the browser I see a series of message box windows with the text: "Microsoft Edge installer has stopped working".

 

Edge and the WebView2 control both continue to work, however, it appears that I have to manually uninstall and reinstall Canary to get the latest update.
