Methods to Manage "Cached images and files"

How does the browser manage the size of Cached images and files?

Will the space used by the cache grow indefinitely as I use the browser?

At the moment, if I'm right, there are two options for clearing the cache:
a) go to settings and manually clear cache
b) set the browser to clear the cache automatically every time it is closed

Would it be possible to have a third option for the user to set a maximum cache size, and the browser then clears the cache when it reaches that maximum size?
For example, user X sets the maximum cache size to 50MB and user Y sets the maximum size to 2GB.
When the browser cache of user X reaches 50MB the browser will automatically clear the cache. Similarly, the other browser will clear the cache when it reaches 2GB.

I don't know if I'm talking nonsense or if it's a good idea.

What do you think about how the browser manages the image cache and if you think there are better ways?

Hi,
it is a good idea, Firefox has the same feature. though it would be great to know how exactly the new Edge insider handles the cache size and what are its internal settings regarding that.
