How Will Chromium-based Edge Roll Out When Released?

Copper Contributor

This question was asked in September, wonder if there any official updates on the process that begins next month.

Its important to us from a commercial point of view to know what the process will be for current IE11 and Edge users of our web based applications.

Edge is already evergreen, so will they just automatically get the new chromium based edge when it is released.

What about IE11? Will that be replaced automatically with the next Windows update or will it require some explicit action?

I have read a lot of speculation but haven't found anything concrete from an official source.

Thanks
Rob

Hi, IE 11 will stay in your system, if you install the new Edge, the old one will be automatically replaced
the only official source is this
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/DeployEdge/microsoft-edge-sysupdate-windows-updates
you can see there which windows updates will trigger the changes
