How about DLNA/Miracast support?

Steel Contributor

I mentioned this in another thread but thought I'd give it its own.

How about Edge offering streaming via DLNA/Miracast, not just Chromecast? It seems strange that Microsoft would go along with locking into the Google ecosystem. The 'Cast' in Edge (and Google Chrome) finds my TV, my Roku stick and my Amazon Fire stick as targets but won't actually cast to any of them (unlike my phone) because they are all Miracast/DLNA but not Chromecast … and I have no intention of getting a Chromecast.

Of course the Windows 10 laptop I am running this Edge on will itself stream to all three targets (Connect in the Action Centre), but only screen mirroring - it won't cast just a browser tab.

So how about Microsoft Edge matching Microsoft Windows 10 and supporting DLNA/Miracast, not just helping lock people into Google's ecosystem?

So true, I have Android phone and sometimes I want to cast the movie I'm watching in browser to my phone but I can't because my phone obviously doesn't support Chromecast. majority of the devices support DLNA/Miracast.
