Each dragged link triggers a new tab, help?

Copper Contributor

Hi,

Some Edge Insider updates ago something changed in the browser behavior. If I have multiple Edge windows open, now dragging a page link from one Edge window into another always opens up a new tab in the target Edge window. This means I soon have an Edge window with 20+ tabs open.

What is causing this behavior? Can it be disabled? I cannot find a setting that causes this, and searching Google does not help either.

Edge Dev Insider, latest build.

Hi there, you are welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider Community Hub!

Thanks for reporting the issue here. I would recommend you to send feedback about this bug through the in-app feedback tool in Microsoft Edge (Alt+Shift+I) with the diagnostics attached in order to help the Microsoft Edge dev team to resolve your issue as soon as possible.

@TheShaunSaw Done. I think I might have done it already, but two times can't hurt.

Finally, I found the answer – it's an idiotic change, done by desing:

https://support.google.com/chrome/thread/61427618?hl=en

"According to the above, (Chrome) developers have decided that URL's/hyperlinks dragged from one tab (web page) onto another tab/window in a new tab should open a new tab rather than navigating to it in the tab it was dragged to."

Here's an add-on to disable it:
