Dev channel update to 95.0.1020.0

Microsoft

Hello Insiders!  Today we’re releasing build 95.0.1020.0 to the Dev channel, and since this is the fourth build from version 95, that means we’re done with 95!  Yes indeed, this is what will be moving to Beta, give or take a few small patches.

We also announced last week that your Microsoft account can now be completely passwordless, thanks in part to Edge and Authenticator working together to manage your passwords.  Read more here:  https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2021/09/15/microsoft-announces-passwordless-future-avail...

And if you’re a big PDF user, we’re happy to announce that we’ve implemented view restoring for PDFs:  https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/articles/pick-up-where-you-left-off-on-microsoft-edge-pdf-rea...

    • Fixed a crash on older versions of iOS.
  • Fixed an issue on Mac where checking for updates in Settings sometimes crashes Settings.
  • Fixed an issue where certain applications installed on the device cause all tabs to crash as soon as they’re opened.
  • Fixed a hang when opening Internet Explorer.
  • Fixed a hang when closing the browser.

Changed behavior:

  • Fixed an issue on certain flavors of Linux where the browser won’t open.
  • Fixed another issue where users are signed out of the browser after updating the browser.
  • Fixed an issue where video volume sometimes gets reset to max.
  • Fixed an issue where Favorites sometimes can’t be clicked.
  • Fixed an issue where importing certain data from other browsers fails.
  • Fixed an issue where Travel Search Assistance doesn’t appear when it should.
  • Fixed an issue where Travel recommendations don’t appear in places they should.
  • Fixed an issue where the Define card sometimes doesn’t disappear when it should.
  • Fixed an issue where certain banner UI can’t be interacted with or closed.
  • Fixed an issue where the link to try the HTTP version of a webpage on the error page that appears when the HTTPS version of the page isn’t available doesn’t actually try navigating to the HTTP version of the website.
  • Fixed an issue where PDF titles as shown in the browser tab are garbled.
  • Fixed an issue where pinned websites sometimes become unpinned after updating the browser.
  • Fixed an issue on older versions of Windows where browser installation fails.
  • Fixed an issue where free text annotation on PDFs doesn’t work at the edges of the page.
  • Fixed an issue where download notifications sometimes aren’t shown in popup windows.
  • Fixed an issue where Jumplist actions are missing from PWAs or websites installed as apps on Windows 11.
  • Mobile:
    • Fixed an issue where InPrivate sometimes can’t be used.
    • Fixed an issue where the sign in screen gets stuck when signing into the browser.
    • Fixed an issue on Android where menus sometimes don’t work when another app is split-screen with the browser.
    • Fixed an issue where passwords can’t be edited or deleted because nothing on the Passwords Settings page works.
    • Fixed an issue where Rewards don’t work.
    • Fixed an issue where the button to enter Immersive Reader sometimes isn’t visible when it should be.
  • Developer:
    • Fixed an issue in WebView2 applications where certain resources are omitted when published the application (Issue 730, Issue 1061).
    • Fixed an issue when building WebView2 apps that contain XAML Islands (Issue 1716).
  • Obsoleted the management policy to control if Internet Explorer Integration Testing is Allowed.

Known issues:

  • Users of certain ad blocking extensions may experience playback errors on YouTube.  As a workaround, temporarily disabling the extension should allow playback to proceed.  See this help article for more details.
  • Some users are still running into an issue where all tabs and extensions immediately crash with a STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error.  The most common cause of this error is outdated security or antivirus software from vendors like Symantec, and in those cases, updating that software will fix it.
  • Users of the Kaspersky Internet Suite who have the associated extension installed may sometimes see webpages like Gmail fail to load.  This failure is due to the main Kaspersky software being out of date, and is thus fixed by making sure the latest version is installed.
  • Some users are still seeing favorites get duplicated.  This issue should be reduced now that automatic deduplication has been introduced into Insider channels, but we’re still rolling that out in Stable.  We’ve also seen duplication happen when running the manual deduplicator on multiple machines before either machine has a chance to fully sync its changes, so make sure to leave plenty of time in between runs of the deduplicator.
  • Some users are seeing “wobbling” behavior when scrolling using trackpad gestures or touchscreens, where scrolling in one dimension also causes the page to subtly scroll back and forth in the other.  Note that this only affects certain websites and seems to be worse on certain devices.  This is most likely related to our ongoing work to bring scrolling back to parity with Edge Legacy’s behavior, so if this behavior is undesirable, you can temporarily turn it off by disabling the edge://flags/#edge-experimental-scrolling flag.

Since Beta is soon moving to version 95, that also means 94 is moving soon to Stable, so be on the lookout for that too!

Let me check
Success! I installed it via the terminal again and it opened right up. It appears that the .deb package was refusing to upgrade, I checked and the last time it was updated was September 13th. I'l llet you know if its up and running properly on Unity as well.

@MikeKG false alarm!  We haven't enabled Password Monitor on Linux yet, so that's why that page and nothing about password health is available there.

@josh_bodner okay that makes sense. So is this the part where I ask when Password Monitor is getting enabled? :)
A lot of crashes when opening new window or have window spawned from PWA notifications. Unfortunately can't seem to find any Application Error from system log otherwise I would provide them.
I have the same significant rise in instability as @jateruy with routine crashes when I attempt to create a new window via the button or by dragging a tab off of a window. While it doesn't happen 100% of the time, it is very common.
i don't understand why this latest update is so unstable - even with only the empty home page open or just the google search page it will crash if left sitting for 10 to 15 minutes of doing absolutely nothing, just leaving the browser open. When I restart it opens to the Edge has been updated welcome page.

@robyrob_ I have the same problem too. too sad.

Hello, I develop automations using FLAUI to automate business functions on various web sites. Prior to version 95 I’ve had no issues accessing automation ID’s for elements. Since testing with 95, the UI tree in FLAUI Inspect doesn’t see the automation ID’s. I see the ID’s when inspecting the HTML but they aren’t exposed to FLAUI for UI automation. Do you know if that is intentional or unintentional? Thanks

Hi @josh_bodner,

On Linux CentOS 7, with build 95.0.1020.5-1, we face the same issue we had with build 91.0.831.1-1:

Résolution des dépendances
--> Lancement de la transaction de test
---> Le paquet microsoft-edge-dev.x86_64 0:95.0.1020.0-1 sera mis à jour
---> Le paquet microsoft-edge-dev.x86_64 0:95.0.1020.5-1 sera utilisé
--> Traitement de la dépendance : libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.18)(64bit) pour le paquet : microsoft-edge-dev-95.0.1020.5-1.x86_64
--> Résolution des dépendances terminée
Erreur : Paquet : microsoft-edge-dev-95.0.1020.5-1.x86_64 (microsoft-edge-dev)
             Requiert : libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.18)(64bit)

At that time, it was fixed by @lorne_mitchell on build 91.0.864.1-1.

You can check the discussion we had here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/discussions/dev-channel-update-to-91-0-831-1-is-live/m-p/2251...

Could you apply the same fix for the next build please?

Regards,

Jérôme

@MikeKG your guess is as good as mine, there's still a long list of stuff we need to make work on Linux!

@jateruy @Sakaizd @BoydB @CameronCA @robyrob_ and anybody else seeing either full browser or webpage crashes, those should be fixed in this week's Dev.  The website crashes were something we inherited from Chromium, so I don't have much visibility into them, but the full browser crashes were caused by our educational popups, which have many different triggers, as you saw.

@ZiZouJH we can reproduce the crash on our end and are investigating the cause.  Thanks for reporting it!

Many thanks @josh_bodner, I can confirm it has finally been fixed in package microsoft-edge-dev-97.0.1072.13-1.x86_64.

I hope it will not appear again in the future :)
