Dev channel update to 94.0.982.2 is live

Microsoft

Hello Insiders!  Today we’re releasing build 94.0.982.2 to the Dev channel.  Today also marks the official end of support for Microsoft 365 apps and services in Internet Explorer.  See our updated post here for more details:  https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-365-blog/microsoft-365-apps-say-farewell-to-interne....  As far as new things to talk about:

For everything user-facing:

Added features:

  • Added an option in Immersive Reader to make the columns of text wider.
  • Added a Settings page for Accessibility settings.
  • Added support for viewing favorites in Application Guard windows when Application Guard is in Standalone Mode.
  • Added a management policy to control if Only On Premises Implicit Signin is Enabled, which controls if only on-premises accounts are allowed to use implicit sign-in.
  • Added an entry to the Share popup on the context menu.
  • Enabled SSO on Linux.
  • Re-enabled tab sharing capabilities in WebView2 apps.

Improved reliability:

  • Fixed a crash when using Collections.
  • Fixed an issue where adding all tabs to a Collection sometimes crashes the browser.
  • Fixed a crash on Mac when selecting tabs using the Touchbar.
  • Fixed a crash when closing the browser when a popup is open.
  • Fixed an issue where PWAs or websites installed as apps sometimes close spontaneously.
  • Fixed an issue where deleting a Collection sometimes causes the Collections pane to go blank.

Changed behavior:

  • Improved searching for text in PDFs.
  • Fixed another issue on Mac where the Passwords page is blank.
  • Fixed an issue where the Online voices aren’t available to use in Read Aloud.
  • Fixed an issue where the Read Aloud controls sometimes don’t respond to input.
  • Fixed an issue where Print Preview sometimes shows fewer pages than are in the PDF.
  • Fixed an issue where context menu options sometimes don’t work when they should.
  • Fixed an issue on Mac where the media Touchbar doesn’t appear when playing a video.
  • Fixed an issue where opening a Collection in a Tab Group results in some of the tabs not being in a Tab Group.
  • Fixed an issue where the Shopping popup keeps opening in a loop while on certain websites.
  • Fixed an issue where closing tabs while downloads are pending sometimes causes the current window to have no tabs, and the current one is non-functional.
  • Fixed an issue where websites that are supposed to open in IE mode sometimes fail to open.
  • Fixed an issue where certain data sometimes isn’t imported from another browser when it should.
  • Fixed an issue where automatic HTTPS upgrades try to upgrade pages on the local network like those for internet router management.
  • Fixed an issue where certain accessibility settings don’t persist across sessions when they should.
  • Fixed an issue where the Force option for the Browser Signin management policy doesn’t work.
  • Downloads of unsafe file types are now disabled if they’re initiated from a secure page but the download itself occurs via an insecure transport.

Known issues:

  • Users of certain ad blocking extensions may experience playback errors on Youtube.  As a workaround, temporarily disabling the extension should allow playback to proceed.  See this help article for more details.
  • Some users are still running into an issue where all tabs and extensions immediately crash with a STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error.  The most common cause of this error is outdated security or antivirus software from vendors like Symantec, and in those cases, updating that software will fix it.
  • Users of the Kaspersky Internet Suite who have the associated extension installed may sometimes see webpages like Gmail fail to load.  This failure is due to the main Kaspersky software being out of date, and is thus fixed by making sure the latest version is installed.
  • Some users are still seeing favorites get duplicated.  This issue should be reduced now that automatic deduplication has been introduced into Insider channels, but we’re still rolling that out in Stable.  We’ve also seen duplication happen when running the manual deduplicator on multiple machines before either machine has a chance to fully sync its changes, so make sure to leave plenty of time in between runs of the deduplicator.
  • Some users are seeing “wobbling” behavior when scrolling using trackpad gestures or touchscreens, where scrolling in one dimension also causes the page to subtly scroll back and forth in the other.  Note that this only affects certain websites and seems to be worse on certain devices.  This is most likely related to our ongoing work to bring scrolling back to parity with Edge Legacy’s behavior, so if this behavior is undesirable, you can temporarily turn it off by disabling the edge://flags/#edge-experimental-scrolling flag.

Believe it or not, next week is when we expect to have the final builds for version 94 since this is the first version that follows our 4 week release cycle!

Thank you additionally for the restoration of the flag to disable tab hover groups.

@josh_bodner

Did you find a solution to  my problem ?

Picture : same problem on edge canary android

Does anyone have problem with collections?
I can't add any page to collection. Notes working fine.
Also, if I'm right clicked on tab -> Add all tabs to collection <- this method working fine, but I'm need to add specific pages to collection.
Is it possible to use dark mode on all pages (native)?
Yes. You can use edge://flags/#enable-force-dark to make all web pages use dark mode.
I'm very curious if you can get the same thing to happen in Chrome's Canary or Dev channels, because this is usually the sort of thing that comes from Chromium (even if we wrote it, since we write webpage rendering code straight into Chromium).

You had also mentioned before that it's giving you an "it looks like the site has closed the connection" error (even though that text isn't visible), which makes me still wonder if the way you have your profiles set up (some similarity in settings, extensions, etc.) across devices is causing this, and an easy way to rule that out is to see if it happens in a Guest window (not InPrivate).
yea. will like to see this on mobile (iOS)

There is no problem with edge stable and chrome stable, but there is the problem on chrome dev, so it's maybe chromium as you said it...

Yes, there is the same problem on a friend's computer. So the problem is not Linked to my msa
Thank you for great update!!. I'm comeback to add 3rd reply. Still waiting for Azure AD user sync across device on Linux.
OS: Manjaro Linux x86_64
Linux manjaro 5.12.19-1-MANJARO #1 SMP PREEMPT x86_64 GNU/Linux
Error Code 5 on Mac when attempting to load "What's new?" page, and "Out of Memory" error when attempting to view it on Windows.

Mac: M1, The Latest Dev Channel version
Windows: Windows 11, Surface Pro 2017
Hi, thanks for new version. I always try to login to my aad account on linux, which worked in this version. But it says, sync is not available. So good news/bad news scenario ;) . Or is there some experimental flag to enable sync on linux?

@josh_bodner The new tab page (region: china) now have ads that does not respect the "Content" settings (displays at all times), is extremely annoying and destroys the beauty of the ntp design.

EDIT: It appears that the issue is now fixed. Please don't do it again.

Chinese users value the cleanliness of the browser much (compared to other browsers in china), and the addition will (and already started to have) result in furious user migrating to other browsers in such region. As of now, critics have already begun as the addition of those ads is reported on tech medias. Please address this issue as fast as possible.

Unfortunately this option forces dark mode even when the browser/system is set to light mode. It would be amazing to have a option to force dark mode for webpages only when the browser is set to dark mode.
The issue with adding a page to a collection should be fixed in this week's Dev build!
Yeah, that sad tab is equivalent to our thinking bubble, so it looks like the same crash is indeed happening in Chrome and is where we're getting it from. Just out of curiosity, have you filed feedback for this issue? If not, doing that and specifically mentioning that this crash happens in Chrome too would be really helpful since we could then look for the equivalent bug in Chromium's database.
Done, Thank you very much @joh_bodner ! Waiting for a solution in next builds now...
@josh_bodner My problem is now solved on edge stable, dev canary and on chrome too (mobile and desktop) thank you very much for your help !
