Hello Insiders! Today we’re releasing build 88.0.680.1 to the Dev channel. To start with, we want to mention a specific issue that we know some of you have been running into where Edge won’t launch. One of the causes occurs when an old Edge process is running in the background and won’t close to make way for the new one to start. This cause requires a fix in Windows, and as of right now, that fix is beginning to roll out, so we hope that many of you who are seeing this issue will see far less of it after this.
Next, for those of you who mentioned that National Cyber Security Awareness Month would be a perfect time for us to talk about safety and security in Edge, here you go! We’ve got an overview of the latest updates to all our unique security features: https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2020/10/26/safety-privacy-cyber-security-awareness-month/. Along the same enterprise-focused lines, we’ve also got an overview of our recent updates to the enterprise new tab page: https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2020/10/29/enterprise-new-tab-page-my-feed/. Finally, for everything new that’s worth mentioning in the browser:
Added features:
Improved reliability:
Changed behavior:
Known issues:
As always, we couldn’t do this without you!

re: "Fixed an issue where websites installed as apps sometimes use icons that are too big on the Start menu."
This required a uninstall/reinstall of all my existing sites-as-apps to fix, is that expected?

@Jamie_Thelin At this point I'm not sure, since I know the start menu also likes to cache things that sometimes take hours/days to update.

@Wittycat Mind filing more feedback? Specifically, can you make sure Edge is open to the edge://sync-internals page and make sure you send the screenshot in the feedback? That way we can see what the error is.

Updated to 88.0.680.1 in Mint 19.1 based on Ubuntu 18 LTS.
Edge would start to open, crashed.
Rebooted, and all was OK.

@josh_bodner So interesting that this is the first time I've seen the issue where Edge wouldn't restart after updating. LOL Had to go into task manager and kill all the Edge tasks I could find to get it to restart.
Also, a quick side note that I am still seeing odd behavior with the paste 'shortener' that I've noted in the past. I haven't been turning in new bugs, since I figure they were just dupes and noise. Pasting to Slack is particularly fraught with error of having the right text but the link actually truncated to just the domain level vs the entire URI as expected.

This version is causing a lot of issues with YouTube video play back. It seems to struggle to cope with some videos and the videos freeze, but sound continues. If I go in to fullscreen mode, the videos suddenly go in to 4 x speed or something similar.
At first, I thought it was a problem with my connection, but I don't get this issue in other browsers.

@josh_bodner - well still no vertical tabs in this release but I have it in Canary. Also this release messed up two of my laptops to completely stop synching. One is still good the other two are borked. I need to remove DEV and reinstall it now. Canary works fine for vertical tabs and sync. Not very impressed.

It appears you added the ability to hide/unhide tab groups with one click on the tab group name! This is awesome... I love love love it!!!
Thank you all!
