Welcome to the new year! Today we’re releasing build 81.0.381.0 to the Dev Channel, which as you can see is the first new build from major version 81. We haven’t been completely asleep during the holidays though; we’ve been slowing turning favorites sync back on for most Canary and Dev users, with the last of them coming back online a couple of days ago. As sync is re-enabled, some machines may experience duplication-like behavior as the machines get back into a clean state, but that behavior shouldn’t persist, and any changes you make to your favorites should now sync properly (but please let us know if that’s not the case!)
We also have a couple of informational updates. First, we’ve proposed our security baseline configuration for when organizations install the Stable channel of Edge: https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2019/12/18/security-baseline-draft-edge-79/. There’s an accompanying discussion over on the Security Baselines forum. Second, we started a discussion around the value proposition of Reading List and how users would like to see us evolve it moving forward: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/discussions/reading-list-discussion/m-p/1070553. As for the most noteworthy product changes:
Added features:
Improved reliability:
Changed behavior:
Known issues:
We’re looking forward to the release of the Stable channel soon, and thank you for all the help you’ve given us in getting to that point!

@kalith wrote:@josh_bodner I'm hoping this update fixes the issues ive been having where if a video autoplays it will switch me to another tab. was happening on my mac, not sure if its on other devices too.
So like if you have 2 NTPs (New tab pages) open, in the first one you enter a YouTube video URL then once the video starts playing, you will be shifted to the 2nd tab automatically?
well that never happened to me on Windows 10.
Try disabling extensions or resetting flags, maybe some of them are causing interference.

"Added a keyboard shortcut for starting Read Aloud (ctrl + shift + U)"
can you please add this shortcut to the ellipsis menu?

Hi Josh,
Added the ability to paste multiple items into a Collection at the same time.
Where & or how? All I see is + Add current page (singular); oh & A note.
Still, need to fix pinned sites not opening in the right desktop... you know to what this refers.
MY Favs sync is, STILL, not On. But, on a good note, Dark & Collections, now, work without flags, for me. Does seem odd, though, that Canary does, still, need them.
Cheers,
Drew

@josh_bodner Edge was working great until this last update. I use it here at work. However now it will not work at all. I can't get any pages to open, not even the settings page. The error I get is "This page is having a problem" STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION. I have uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled....Nothing. Tried running with elevated rights with the same result. (using on Win10 Enterprise, 1809)

Hi Dale,
Update your Win10 to 1909 then, try again with Dev & see what results you have. There was another similar instance, recently and they were ok after I had suggested they bring the OS up to current. Anxious to have a progress report from you soon on this.
Cheers,
Drew

It's good to have that but then you will lose the ability to do company searches and awesome Microsoft rewards for gift cards, Surface Pros, HoloLens experiences, WMR, Xbox One X contest, Xbox Gold and more. I say it's worth sticking with Bing, search results are similar to Google anyways. :) @jraff

Oh, yes, indeed there is. Firewalls of some sort, maybe? But, suddenly with this Build is the odd part. Maybe, Josh will have a helpful thought.

"Bing, search results are similar to Google anyways." If not often even better. REALLY discovering Bing can be really delightful.

I'm on 1909 having the same issue
Jan 09 2020 05:54 AM
@Drew1903 Oh true. I should have just said that instead of beating around the bush. I honestly, I think Bing results are better and there are fewer ad results before you get to the real search results compared to Google. Even when I talk about searching something up I am counter-cultural by not saying "I googled ________." Instead, I say, "I searched ________."

@josh_bodner Thanks very much to the team. A lot of work has gone into Dev in a pretty short time. I can report that Sync is working flawlessly across all my devices, and Collections is as well. Had to enable the Collections flag, and all is well.

Thx for your great work. It's really amazing using and participating on Microsoft Edge Insider/Can@josh_bodner

You're not alone, others also reporting to have disabled fav syncing,
must still be a controlled feature rollout thingy

Windows 10 1903 still has a Long way to go before it is no longer supported. the only version of Windows people better upgrade from is Windows 7..

Most of the time, when I want a quick answer to my question, Google does it better.
instead of going to a website to find my answer, simply by typing my question, Google shows the answer at top.
Bing does this too of course but a lot less often.
Bing has lots of ads, usually the first 4-5 results of my searches are ads that are unrelated.
I even had an experience when I searched to download Microsoft Edge insider and I got an add at the very top of the page saying download Google chrome. lol
Bing also is annoying with their safe searches. they categorize some ridiculous words and phrases as unsafe.
