Welcome to the new year! Today we’re releasing build 81.0.381.0 to the Dev Channel, which as you can see is the first new build from major version 81. We haven’t been completely asleep during the holidays though; we’ve been slowing turning favorites sync back on for most Canary and Dev users, with the last of them coming back online a couple of days ago. As sync is re-enabled, some machines may experience duplication-like behavior as the machines get back into a clean state, but that behavior shouldn’t persist, and any changes you make to your favorites should now sync properly (but please let us know if that’s not the case!)
We also have a couple of informational updates. First, we’ve proposed our security baseline configuration for when organizations install the Stable channel of Edge: https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2019/12/18/security-baseline-draft-edge-79/. There’s an accompanying discussion over on the Security Baselines forum. Second, we started a discussion around the value proposition of Reading List and how users would like to see us evolve it moving forward: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/discussions/reading-list-discussion/m-p/1070553. As for the most noteworthy product changes:
Added features:
Improved reliability:
Changed behavior:
Known issues:
We’re looking forward to the release of the Stable channel soon, and thank you for all the help you’ve given us in getting to that point!

@josh_bodner I remember seeing it come up a while ago, but when can we see support for custom search engines on the NTP?

"Added the ability to paste multiple items into a Collection at the same time."
Maybe I am just dense, but I can't seem to find this feature to test it. Can you point me in the right direction?

@josh_bodner It's very encouraging to see that you believe so strongly that the sync problems finally are a thing of the past. It does look promising so far, but I have a few questions:

I was wondering the same. at first i thought they mean dragging multiple elements in a web page and dropping them into one collection but that has always been available

I actually hadn't done much dragging and dropping of items into collections, trying it again now shows me how useful it is, thanks.
When you say dragging multiple items in though, what exactly do you mean?
For example, when I highlight a block of search results, (and the accompanying text as a side effect), it just drops a single item in the collection with all of the test in it and the links not rendered as links. Is that what you mean?
That is also useful, but I thought at first you meant there was a way to multi select links in the page and drag them in, resulting inn multiple separate entries in the collection. *That* would be sure useful to me. It hadn't occurred to me to want it, but now I do. :)

@Red_namalas Yeah i agree i do miss that to, now the only option we do have is Bing on NTP

I keep getting Cloudflare Captchas when visiting some sites. It seems to be a problem on Dev Edge and I tried to redownload the Canary edge to test with a clean history but it shows on there too. It doesn't occur on my other browsers so wondering if there is something that may be causing it to pop up on Edge.
It has been happening since the update before this one.

@josh_bodner Did anybody notice that Edge Team added an ugly scrollbar on the new tab page while news feed is enabled.
I don't know did anybody really ask for this ugly thing! There are lot of important bugs exist for months but they are busy with making fine running things ugly. Pathetic.
Dear Edge Team, Please remove this ugly scrollbar or at least give an option to disable it on the new tab page while news feed is enabled. Otherwise we have to bid farewell to Edge and go back to Google Chrome.
Thank you.

@josh_bodner
Hi
Fixed an issue where downloading files in IE mode tabs sometimes prevents the browser from being closed even after the downloads are completed.
This still isn't fixed on windows 10 or windows 7. On windows 7 it still completely hangs browser. Browser version 81.0.381.0

@josh_bodner Great update especially since the favorites sync is finally back!
On a sidenote: Might you assist me in changing my username here in the MTC? That would be much appreciated!

Yes, everything we select goes into one collection only, I don't think there is a way to select multiple parts of a web page separately. on Windows explorer I can do it by holding CTRL key and selecting multiple files but doesn't seem to work on web pages.
so it begs the question, what this exactly means
"Added the ability to paste multiple items into a Collection at the same time."

@josh_bodner Unfortunately this new version is broken on my laptop... It opens full white, no UI elements. After a minute the UI is visible again, but no pages can be browsed, including internal pages like edge://settings, the browser always returns STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION error code.
I had to revert to the beta.

Yes someone actually asked for this scrollbar on the NTP.
it doesn't look ugly to me but that's my opinion.
