cortana support for new Microsoft Edge

Copper Contributor

If anybody can remember, in the older version of Microsoft edge there was a Cortana support which helped in finding the meaning of the keywords and related info about them in side panel.

this was by far the best feature any normal pdf viewer could offer.

can anybody try to add those features in new edge.

I always find its need while using newer chromium based EDGE

Hi,
it's on the top feedbacks list received by users
https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback
also this is the big discussion thread about it

@imayush Yes, I agree. There are so many features that they still need to bring over, and Cortana is one of them.

@imayush Thanks for reaching out. Yes, this is something that we've heard is important for users. It would be great if you can add your thoughts to that specific discussion too, so we can track all the feedback together.

I cannot use voice in my environment... is there a way to use text like before?

Cortana is not yet integrated into the new Edge browser but you can type commands or questions in Windows 10 search (if your Windows 10 is up to date) and Cortana should automatically pick up those commands and respond.

Cortana 2 aka beta is on the way as well, the next Windows 10 update has it, you can get it from Windows insider slow ring. it has a dedicated text area for typing.

@HotCakeX Cortana is also losing most of its skills and is being dummed down to an assistant (☹). That may include not being compatible with edge or it may even be a slow death where they stop developing it and wait for it to die.

They are shaping the new Cortana to be most useful for Microsoft 365 subscribers (Family/business/enterprise)

btw they announced that Office 365 subscriptions are merging and there is only gonna be 1 subscription with different plans and it's Microsoft 365.

if Edge team want to just create simple features like looking up words and show them in the same page instead of a new tab then it won't need AI but other things like controlling browser with voice, like how Firefox voices is, that probably requires Cortana integration

@imayush that feature was the best because you don't need to open another tab when you want to know translate of words or if there is a place name it will show you that place directly I would really like to see Cortana in Edge Chromium.
