Copy/paste/cursor moving crash with recent Canary builds

Iron Contributor

I've been having this issue for probably 3 weeks and I've run into an issue where I couldn't reproduce it.  But with 99.0.1111.0 and a particular work page I can get the browser to crash very consistently.

Basically, if I try and copy/paste or use shift with my arrow keys(or home/end) to select text, the browser will freeze for several seconds and then the whole browser closes.  Since it's a browser crash, Send Feedback is completely useless as the recording closes when the browser closes.  In settings, I tried disabling Microsoft Editor thinking that was the culprit as sometimes it would crash when it was offering suggestions, but disabling hasn't resolved anything.

https://aka.ms/AAf9205 is my Windows Feedback Hub entry/recording for it.

This is not an issue with 96.0.1054.62, Chrome 96.0.4664.110, nor FireFox 97.0.a1

Hey there @Jason Baginski! Since you've got a consistent way to trigger this crash, can you try heading to edge://settings/appearance and disabling the mini menu (Show mini menu when selecting text) and confirm if you still see the crash after doing so? Based on when you're seeing this crash, I'm wondering if the mini menu is behaving badly with this specific site. If disabling the mini menu stops the crash, you can add your work site to the disabled site list to prevent future crashes and keep the mini menu if you like!

Just disabled mini-menu(now with 99.0.1112.0). Same crash.

Thanks for checking! I know you mentioned that the Send Feedback is difficult here, because recording doesn't work through the crash. However, since you can get into the browser this time can you head over to edge://crashes, find the most recent crash, and check to Submit Feedback? Please include optional diagnostic data, and let me know what you put in the description so I can grab it on this side! Note that things are moving a little slower here due to the holiday, though at 3 weeks of having this it sounds like it's already in Dev as well as Canary. Are you seeing this in Dev?

@Alexandra-R Ha!  clicking "Submit feedback" also causes Edge to close.

I don't have Dev installed anywhere I'm afraid(and I understand the holiday thing, most everyone else is out leaving me with the additional workload so I'm afraid I can't afford the time to pick up Dev and attempt additional testing)
Ha indeed! Can never be easy, can it? The good news is it looks like those last two crashes are from trying to submit, but the others are from the copy paste issue? We can work with that, do you mind checking if copying the most recent crash with a CAB ID listed to the clipboard also causes a crash (no whammies, no whammies) and, if not, pasting the output here? Thanks!
I tried ctrl+c and right click->copy. Both work fine for grabbing the cab id.
Can you mark the checkbox on the far left of that entry and try the button on the top left that says 'Copy to clipboard' then drop that here? That gives a more detailed readout of the info the team needs to follow up, and to find the crash report in the system. Thanks!

Perfect, thank you so much!

@Alexandra-R FYI, these latest two crash reports were from trying to use cert.microsoft.com to report some abuse(aka, it's not just one of my work sites)

@Alexandra-R FYI 99.0.1113.0 also has the issue.

FYI, I just picked up 99.0.1117.0 and tried the highly repeatable crash steps. No crashing. Yay! That's only like a minute of testing, but it's nice to see.
Absolutely wonderful to hear! If you see this happening again, let me know here!
