Compatibility with "Join" Chrome Extension

Brass Contributor

This isn't specific to Edge Chromium as most other Chromium-based browsers have this same issue, but it's one that prevents me from switching to any other browser.

This extension, Join by joaoapps, is one I heavily rely on to mirror my phone's notifications to my PC, sync my clipboard across devices and send SMS from my PC (I know Pushbullet is a good alternative that would probably work but the subscription model is too expensive).

Most other Chromium browsers are missing certain components Chrome has, which causes this extension to not work, and Edge seems to be the same, but I'm not sure what's actually missing (I'm no good with the developer side of things).

Is anyone able to offer any insight as to whether Edge Chromium may eventually support this extension? Thanks in advance! 🙂

That is an interesting discovery. We are still in earlier builds and I am sure that as the development proceeds, more extensions will become compatible. I will bring this one to the attention of the product team.

Hello I'd also like to chime in and say I'd love for this extension to work. My current error from the extension says: Unknown error: "TypeError: Cannot read property 'where' of null" and "Testing registration on Join's server... "noauth" if that's of any help.

Really loving the new edge though! cheers!

I could install the Join extension on Edge and it asks for passwords, I think it's working

@HotCakeX no, it installs it just does not work properly.

@v-gapart Do we have any news about this?

The problem is described here by the dev itself:
https://joaoapps.helprace.com/i608-edge-please

And it has been asked for a long time with no answer here:
https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/edge-developer/issues/449

  - Would it be possible for Edge to implement the chrome.gcm API so that extensions can receive push messages?

Because of few reasons the Edge does not become attractive to replace chrome once and for all ...

Without Join, I'm still on Chrome.

Any updates to this?

I am moving to edge from chrome, but I really need 'join' to join Microsoft Edge.

There is an alternative, use Your Phone app.

Microsoft store:

Google Play:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.appmanager&hl=en_US&gl=US

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/sync-across-your-devices

  1. See phone notification, control which apps send notification etc.
  2. see SMS, send SMS, choose sim 1 and 2
  3. see photos on phone
  4. control music being played on phone
  5. Stream your apps to computer/laptop
  6. Call people from computer/laptop
  7. and more.

it's more reliable than an extension on a browser. I've been using it for more than a year.

@HotCakeX

Too bad clipboard sharing is limited to Samsung phones. It's the main reason I use join.

Other advanced features like remote control or streaming apps are also limited to Samsung only unfortunately.

Yeah it's because of the deal Samsung made with Microsoft, otherwise I don't think there is any technical barrier not to use those features just on any Android device.
I know this post is old, but this is also the only extension keeping me from switching to Edge.
This is a real shame. I've switched to edge recently and I've really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I cannot get by without my shared clipboard. I will have to run chrome in the background as well as edge just to allow Join to still work.
