Can Edge 44.18362.387.0 in win10 1909 support native messaging host?

Copper Contributor

Now I'm using edge 44.18362.387.0 whose EdgeHTML shows 18.18363 in win 10 1909.

I'm very confused if this version of edge can support native messaging host.

If it can, what's the detail?

Also, what's the difference between insider version and this one in support of native messaging host?

Hi @Frank_Liu

Edge classic is no longer in development.

The new Edge browser is going to replace it soon.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/DeployEdge/microsoft-edge-sysupdate-windows-updates

the first stable channel will be released in January 15 2020.

the new Edge browser supports Native Messaging and it's based on Chromium (Blink and V8), no longer using EdgeHTML engine.

@HotCakeX So you mean the version I'm using belongs to classic one , and it doesn't support native messaging host at all currently, right?

Yes that's correct, you are using the classic or legacy Edge, which is built in by default in Windows 10.
The new Edge versions are currently as follows

Version 79 for Beta/RC channel
Version 80 for Dev and Canary channels (Latest Version 80.0.351.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit))

They can be downloaded from this page:

The classic Edge must be supporting Native messaging because Microsoft wrote an entire article about it here:
Native messaging in Microsoft Edge (classic):
