AV1 not working and dropping frames on YT videos

Brass Contributor

Noticed this problem a few days ago. AV1 stopped working in Edge at some point for me. No YT video plays in AV1, but I can open the same video in Firefox and it plays in the AV1 codec. Also no dropped frames in Firefox.

The frame drops in Edge seem to occur every 1,000 frames or so.

There are many reports of this on the web, I don't know about the frame drops but since update 117 AV1 support is completely broken in Edge
Edge can see the AV1 Video Extension installed from Microsoft store (edge://gpu/), but it doesn't have the decoding ability enabled.
So Youtube is limited to 4k/VP9 videos, no 8k, and missing AV1 options in playback preferences page

PS: the bug is also present in every channel, even Canary 119

Is there a link to a feedback hub we can upvote to raise more awareness of the issue? It's quite a big issue for a browser to have.

Just wanted to say this issue was FINALLY resolved, with Edge version 121. Which as of posting has been pushed to the "stable" or release channel for ~1-2 weeks now.
