Give the ability to paste an image from the clipboard.

Example ... I use the snipping tool to copy part of my screen.  I copy this to my clipboard.  I'd like to be able to paste that image from the clipboard.

I'm trying to paste plain text into a reply, and the screen gets greyed out and I have to scroll to the top of the page to see this error message:

PasteO365Network.PNG

Guess what I was pressing to Paste - Ctrl + V

So I guess there are three requests here:

1. Allow Ctrl + V to work so you can paste (as per the instructions)

2. Show the error message where you are on the page not at the top where you have to scroll up

3. Allow people to paste using other methods (such as the mouse!)

I've found the same issue - but only in Edge.  It works fine in IE and Chrome for me.

Thanks for the feedback, @Chris Moon. The paste issue seems to be specific to Edge and we're working on it.

I don't believe it's just specific to Edge, IE is also affected according to @Tony Redmond (in the Yammer network) and I'm sure I was getting it in Chrome (but I can't log in using Chrome now - another bug to post)

Got it. Thanks for the additional info. We will work on this issue!

Pasting in IE works fine for me. It didn't work in Edge (as mentioned above).

I found this workaround that if you refresh the browser (while you are on the page where you want to paste) it works after the refresh (F5). The Quick Reply box has no issue with pasting text.

To add further information, pasting working if you use the hyperlink button pop-up just not directly into the message body.

As a temporary solution, paste works in edge, if I first change the format from RICH TEXT to ... HTML. (tabs accross the top of the input area).  I then change it back to rich text and continue on my way.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Hey Paul, unless I misunderstanding this, you should be able to copy and paste images as part of rich text. Though you may have to drop it in Word or another page that has rich text editing beforehand. This is an out of the box platform feature though and unlikely something that we can change.

Michael Holste, an image does not paste in the comments here.  I just tested it. If there is rich text as part of the image and word 2016 OCR'd the image, then that OCR'd data will paste in.

Here is what I did. I used the snipping tool, grabbing an image of the far-right of the edge browser top bar, in my o365 session.  I pasted this into word 2016 desktop.  I added text under that image in word.  I highlighted everything in word (image and newly typed text), pasted that into the comments here.  The only thing that pasted in was the rich text that I added under the image.

It looks like one can upload a file on the original 1st comment only (haven't tested it), but UPLOAD is not an option on any subsequent comment fields for that post.

Ah gotcha. Thanks for digging in on this. I will look into.

Hey Paul, when in the "Idea Exchange" discussion style (like we are now) the attach file bar does disappear. This is specific to this conversation style. You can still attach images and videos here through the Rich Text Editor, just not files. In other boards you still can.

Pasting an image does NOT work on my system.  Doesn't matter which tab I'm in (RICH TEXT, or HTML).  Text will paste with NO problems.

The image I'm attempting to paste, Originates from the SNIPPING TOOL.  This is pasted into WORD 2016 C2R (per your earlier request), then is copied/pasted from Word to the COMMENT box here.  None of the image material shows up.

I'm on Win10 Pro 1607 build 14393.  I tried this in both EDGE and IE11.  I did not try Chrome or Firefox.

Just now, I opened up a new idea, to test importing the image file.  Subject line is ... Paste Image from Clipboard, note 2.  That also did not appear to be brought in.  Does the image extension only accept certain types (accept jpeg but not png)?  Also in this, I first tried pasting the image from Word, but it did not work in the first entry of the threads.

Microsoft

Hey Paul, yes you are correct that pasting an image from the clip board doesn't work (upvoted this idea). I believe this is Lithium functionality. I was referring to the 'Upload' button disappearing for replies (that works in other areas, just not for 'Ideas' discussion type).

Steel Contributor

Thanks Michael Holste!  I'll put on my patience hat.

This bug should be fixed for all now. Please let us know if you're still seeing issues.

Hi @Michael Holste the upload pictures seems to be broken at the minute.

I would really support being able to paste in images. Especially important for people trying help each other out by sharing screen snips quickly and seamlessly.

This wont work on the web because the paste image from the windows snipping tool only works in Microsoft Word or Outlook emails. This is a Web Content Management interface so the only known way to add an image is to upload it just like you do on any other online social network or web forum. Smiley Happy

Works in Slack just fine. I want to use Teams, but you guys are behind the curve on basic functionality.

Pasting an image from the clipboard works with these steps.

  1. Click "Photos."
    image.png
  2. Click anywhere in the gray area.
    image.png
  3. Paste image from clipboard.
  4. Click "Done" once the image renders.

Really wish it didn't require this workaround but you do what you can.

Hi all,

Please use the workaround provided by @Noah Sparks. We would like to enable a better solution for copy and paste but this is not currently supported by the platform. We will of course revisit this as and when the platform does support it.

Thanks again for your idea's and @Noah Sparks for sharing the work around.

Hi all,

resurrecting this idea, we will shortly be testing a new text editor which will allow you to copy and past images directly into the body without first uploading them.

I will of course provide updates as they become available.

Hi all,

I am cleaning up our Ideas boards and changing some of the statuses to new ID's as I go.

What is the latest on this, because we have been asking for it for ages? Well Lithium, now Khoros, are currently testing their next version of the editor. It does not yes support copy and paste of images but it is planned shortly.

Updates to come as soon as I have them.
