Unable to update user authentication methods

While i am trying to update the user mobile and alternative Email id in Azure authentication methods i am getting " Unable to update user authentication methods" error. Please can any one help me on this.

Thank you for your question. I just tried on my test environment and it works fine. I also tried using "New user authentication methods experience" and that also worked without any issues.


Could you please provide more details?


Are you using an admin account?

Does it happen when you try to update "user authentication methods" for any user?

Are you trying to update the phone number or Email?

@Dav1988 - I have got same error. Here I'm using Global Admin account. It is happen with only one user. I am trying to update mobile number.

In case anyone is interested, I had 2 active directory accounts using the same SMTP address, and both syncing to Azure using AD Connect. In the AD Connect sync conflicts, I found these accounts could not sync to Azure due to this SMTP/ProxyAddresses conflict. After fixing that problem, I was able to update the authentication methods on the affected user account.



Any more hints from the logs? Most likely related to attribute conflict
