WVD Issue -Explorer Constantly Crashing and Restarting

Brass Contributor

Just wondering if anyone else has come across an issue where explorer.exe keeps crashing and restarting every few seconds when you login to WVD using the Remote Desktop client on Windows 10 2004.

You can't even sign out as by the time you open up the windows start menu explorer.exe is restarted and you loose the Windows UI.

The workaround was to restart the VM which resolved the problem for now.

The error in event viewer is:

@Tz_Blog it's hard to troubleshoot these issues over forum posts, it typically requires a memory dump of the app or sometimes the full OS before being able to point to the root cause. This thread has been around an issue that was fixed in November '20 - also the last time someone replied to it.

It's not unlikely the issue you are having is something completely else. Do you have a CSS case number I can look into?

Hi Pieter - Case # 2102180010003574.   I am suspecting the FSLogix is what causing explorer.exe to crash but it's not definitive because this is a random issue.    Microsoft performance team was not able to fine the root cause.   For now,  I disabled FSLogix via Registry entry because most people access our WVD environment to run certain applications.

Thank you,
