Setting up a virtual desktop for game development

Copper Contributor

Hi

For three days i have been trying to find out how to set up a virtual desktop, spoken to multiple salespeople and experimented via gptchat.. however I am just going around in circles... so hopefully this is the place to get an answer!

I want to see whether I can develop a 3d Unity game on a virtual desktop rather than buy a new laptop and if this will be cost effective route moving forward

The recommended spec for the laptop seems to be around

Intel® Core™ i7 10 Core Processor 13620H (4.90GHz Turbo)
 32GB PCS PRO SODIMM DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 16GB)
 NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 4070 - 8.0GB GDDR6 Video RAM - DirectX® 12.1
500gb ssd

although think the GPU could drop a level to the 3xxx

Please can someone help me translate this into the equivalent spec for virtual desktop and also tell me how to set up - when i go to virtual desktop option in azure i don't get offered a choice on specs

am desperate to try to this out asap

thanks very much for any help and insights you can offer

Hello,
There is not right answer for your question:
- Azure Game Development Virtual Machine is scheduled for retirement on February 1st, 2024.
- You can consider using an NC4as T4 v3 VM on Azure, which includes a old Tesla T4 GPU

Sorry for that.

Would suggest start from Standard_NV6
