Sage 100, 200 on Azure Virtual Desktop Multisession

Brass Contributor

Hi,

Anyone tried using Azure Virtual Desktop for hosting Sage, particularly Windows 10, 11 Multisession for Sage 100, 200, and if so, what is the high level process that must be considered?

Best Regards

Hi Bharat, did you ever overcome this issue. We are in the process of this right not but are encountering the "A Sage 100 Session has already been initiated. Please wait while the session is being started" error when we launch the SAGE 100 advanced application from an Azure VDA. Let me know what your thoughts are on this. Please note, SAGE has indicated that the workstation on the Azure Virtual Desktop is not supported, but we are still trying to make this happen.

@kdsSTI ... I'm not sure if this applies to your experience, but we were experiencing this when attempting to launch Sage 100 Advanced as a remote app from the Remote Desktop Web Application. Once the Remote Desktop app was downloaded (from here https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/users/connect-windows?tabs=subscribe&pivots=... ... not the Microsoft Store app) and installed on a Windows 10/11 machine (AVD Workspace subscribed to, of course, and authenticated), Sage 100 Advanced launched without the "session initiated" error and appears to be running fine with multiple users on the session host. The Sage server instance is being hosted on a separate VM (client-server architecture) with proper permissions and shortcut links between the AVD session host and the server VM. It's a late reply, but hopefully this helps someone else.

@Bharat Chand

At this very moment I am performing the same task...setting up Sage 100 Advanced on AVD. I have both an AVD host and a server running Sage 100 Advanced. I ran into two issues after installing Sage 100 Workstation on the AVD host:

  1. First error I received was a Activation Not Found error. I determined it was a permissions issue on the folder where Sage 100 Workstation was installed. Note that as my preference I created a top level folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage, and then installed Sage 100 Workstation there. So it became C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage\Sage 100 Workstation. I had a domain security group for my Sage 100 Users. I set that group with Modify permissions on the C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage folder and those permissions propogated down thru the sublevel files and folders. That resolved the Activation Not Found Issue.
  2. Then while in a second AVD session and attempting to access Sage 100 Advance, I received the error "1 User Limit Exceeded. No Valid Activation Found. I found the answer in this Sage KB: https://us-kb.sage.com/portal/app/portlets/results/viewsolution.jsp?solutionid=222924850025520&hyper... . In summary, I copied the Activation.pvx file from the server to the workstation. After that I was able to access Sage 100 Advance in multiple AVD sessions without error.

Did not seem to matter which RDP client I used (though at this date, I either use the Web Client, the Remote Desktop Client, or the new Windows App (all either for Windows or MacOS).

Hope this helps with anyone trying to configure AVD & Sage 100.
