Connection String Encryption on Azure Desktop

Copper Contributor

Our company is thinking of creating WPF applications to deploy on Azure's Virtual Desktop.

These apps will connect to an Azure SQL database and therefore will need connection strings to access the underlying data.

How can we encrypt the connection string with the SQL database's login's credentials? Is the process similar to encrypting on a windows computer? I searched the forums, but did not see any links to articles or knowledge bases.

PS - I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this question (but I couldn't find anything more appropriate). If it isn't can the moderator move it to a better location?

Hi Jordan,

Windows Virtual Desktop is no different than hosting a Windows server VM on Azure, therefor the process of encrypting should be exactly the same. The only difference is that on WVD you can have multiple users sign in and work on one shared Windows 10 machine next to that the RD Gateway/web, RD brokers, broker SQL etc are managed as a service by Microsoft.
