AVD user profiles - migrating to FS from local disk

Copper Contributor

Hi,

So i have inherited AVD with a customer and the issue i have is whoever provisioned this (aka their devious provider) used a local disk on a single host as the profile disk.

I would like to add additional hosts, their use case has grown so the compute resource needs have grown also and the current single host struggles like you wouldn’t (or probably would) believe, to the host pool so i would clearly benefit from migrating these profiles to a premium file share. Why this wasn’t done during initial deployment I don’t know.

My question is - has anyone done this and if they have what was the user experience?

Any experience doing this that you can share is very welcome 🙂

You need to stand up a storage account, create the file share, and then domain join your storage account. Also ensure the users have proper roles on the storage account and file share. You will then also need to ensure that FSLOGIX is enabled with gpo on your domain controller. Once this is done the users will have profiles created in the file share which is roaming (will allow persistence across all hosts). You could then technically migrate the local profiles to the file share.
Hi,

Many thanks for reading and responding. It's the last part of your response I am keen to understand if anyone has done it before - the migration of the local profiles?
Would be good to understand the UX if we migrate.
