Appxsvc RAM consumption

Copper Contributor

Hi.

I have a AVD setup with 11 AVD hosts running Windows 11 22H2 (OS Build 22621.2283) with the Installed Version of FSLogix: 2.9.8171.14983.

I see that the Appxsvc is taking all between 0,5-10GB of RAM. Each time a user logon it increases and then it can go down again. It also takes a lot af RAM even if a user is not logging on - it seems to be the system taking up the RAM.

If I disable the Appxsvc service my Explorer and OneDrive crashes. So there is some kind of a dependencies  here. But the high RAM usage is not present. (yeah - since the serivce is not running).
It is a problem both for admin and non-admin accounts.

I have tried:
- re-install the store
- disable Appxservice via Regedit (Solves the problem - but gives new ones explorer crash etc.)
- Disable store through GPO didnt solve the problem
- disable anti virus

someone have a fix for this?

Hi @zzdallep,

The fact that you are seeing AppXSvc using a lot of RAM suggests that there may be a problem with the service itself, or with one of the UWP apps that it is managing.

Here are a few things you can try to fix the problem:

  1. Restart your AVD hosts. This may seem simple, but it can often fix minor software glitches.
  2. Update your AVD hosts to the latest version of Windows 11. Microsoft regularly releases updates to Windows that include bug fixes and performance improvements.
  3. Update FSLogix to the latest version. FSLogix is a complex software solution, and it is possible that there is a known bug in the current version that is causing the problem.
  4. Run the Windows Store troubleshooter. The Windows Store troubleshooter can help to identify and fix problems with the Windows Store and UWP apps.
  5. Reset the Windows Store. If the Windows Store troubleshooter does not fix the problem, you can try resetting the Windows Store. This will reset the store to its default settings and may fix the problem.
  6. Uninstall and reinstall UWP apps. If the problem is only affecting a specific UWP app, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. This may fix the problem with the app and AppXSvc.

Did you ever get this resolved? We are currently in this situation right now with our Win11 22H2 AVD Session Hosts.

@jasveith  Yes we did create a new custom Image, where we removed all unwanted Appx Packages from the built-in script. After we did this everything did run smoothly. Extacly we could remove 2 sessions host from our environment.

@zzdallep

Would you be able to tell me the size of your files? Out of the box, mine seem to be ~3GB
