I am writing to bring to your attention a recurring problem I have been experiencing with the Remote Desktop application on macOS.

Firstly, let me provide you with some details about my system configuration. I am using an i9 iMac running macOS version 13.4 (22F66). The Remote Desktop version I have installed is the latest available at the time of writing.

 

The issue I am encountering relates to frequent program freezes, but with a peculiar behavior. Whenever I momentarily leave the Remote Desktop window, it consistently hangs or becomes unresponsive. However, when I stay in full-screen mode and avoid minimizing or switching to other applications, the program works flawlessly.

 

I have attempted various troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue, including:

  • Updating macOS and Remote Desktop to their latest versions.
  • Restarting my iMac and ensuring no other resource-intensive processes are running.
  • Resetting the Remote Desktop preferences to default settings.
  • Clearing the Remote Desktop cache.


Unfortunately, none of these actions have alleviated the problem. The freezing only occurs when I momentarily leave the Remote Desktop window, and it happens consistently, making it challenging to work efficiently.

 

Given the nature of this issue, I would greatly appreciate any assistance or guidance you could provide to help resolve it. As Remote Desktop is a crucial tool for my work, having it perform optimally would be highly beneficial.

If you require any further information or if there are specific troubleshooting steps I should undertake, please let me know. I would be more than willing to cooperate in any way necessary to resolve this matter.

I have a client who is experiencing something similar. They are remoting in to a Windows 10 Pro computer via macOS. They report using the new Teams Client, whenever they receive a notification, the Microsoft Remote Desktop app for macOS freezes. Reverting to the old Teams client fixes the issue.
