Platform Updates

Thank you for providing feedback and your continued trust in us. We’re excited to share the following platform improvements with you. We encourage you to take full advantage of all the new features. If you have any feedback, please let us know.

  1. We are thrilled to announce the general availability of VNET Peering on Azure Stack Hub. VNET peering gives you the ability to connect two virtual networks on Azure Stack Hub regardless of the subscription they reside in, without the additional complexity of NVAs, gateways or public IPs. Once peered, the two virtual networks appear as one for a coherent connectivity experience.  Traffic is routed over the private IPs, through the SDN layer and is not exposed to the internet. This new feature provides a low-latency, high-bandwidth connection between resources in different virtual networks. This has been a highly requested feature and we are excited for our customers to try it out in the upcoming software release.
  2. We are introducing a set of scripts that will enhance the Azure Site Recovery (ASR) failback experience to Azure Stack Hub. These scripts enable a simplified failback experience from Azure by automating the process and removing the manual steps required after failover. This is intended to simplify the process by removing the manual steps, reduce the time required to go through each step, and enable a better experience when doing a failback to Azure Stack Hub.
  3. Later this year, customers will be able to create cost-effective, space-efficient, point-in-time incremental snapshots of managed disks attached to running VMs. Microsoft is working with several backup and disaster recovery solutions partners to add support for incremental snapshots in their products.

Platform News from our partners

Microsoft’s Partners have been utilizing Azure Stack Hub in many different environments to achieve their business objectives and improve efficiencies across the board. Here are just a few examples:

  • Halliburton provides oil field services to the energy industry and helps their customers transition to the Cloud. Halliburton has been developing many service offerings on Azure over the last few years. We are excited to announce the availability of the first Halliburton service on Azure Stack Hub – Digital Well Program (DWP), part of Halliburton’s DecisionSpace 365 cloud application offering. With DWP, their customers can plan and design more efficient operations in locations where cloud access is not possible. Azure Stack Hub provides a consistent DevOps platform making it easier for Halliburton to continue extending more of their SaaS offerings on Azure to similar locations without Azure connectivity.
  • Cloud Assert's Multi-Stamp management capability enables a single-pane-of-glass experience via Azure Stack Hub portals to manage and take actions across multiple Azure Stack Hub instances. It provides a holistic way for operators and administrators to perform many of their scenarios without switching between various stamp portals. This is a comprehensive solution from Cloud Assert leveraging Cloud Assert VConnect and Usage and Billing resource providers for Azure Stack Hub. • Intel and Microsoft are developing new solutions on the Azure Stack Edge platform to target the Remote Patient Monitoring use case in the telehealth/clinical intelligence scenario. The solutions will be showcased in the form of a “patient journey” at the MTC  in Chicago as well.
  • Veritas: Veritas introduced new features in the newest release of  NetBackup 8.3, the core of its Enterprise Data Services Platform (EDSP), including product integrations with CloudPoint and Resiliency Platform, now called NetBackup Resiliency. These integrations expand NetBackup’s cloud-native capabilities, including support for Azure Stack Hub to Azure Stack Hub orchestrated disaster recovery for IaaS VMs. Learn more: Veritas Unifies Data Protection from Edge to Core to Cloud and Veritas™ Resiliency Platform 3.5 User Guide.

We encourage you to review the resources listed in this blog post and take advantage of all the new platform improvements. Also if you haven’t done so, make sure you checkout this Ignite session with Natalia Mackevicius about what’s new with the Azure Stack portfolio and this learning video regarding our announcements at Ignite 2020.

Because Ignite is virtual this year, we created a mobile app that allows you to look at Azure Stack hardware and new form factors through augmented reality in the comfort of your environment. You can download it for your iOS or Android device or learn more about it here. We hope you enjoy it.
