Azure Monitoring Agent and DCR

Hi Team,

I'm just learning how to use the azure monitor and I have a quick question on performance metrics using AMA and DCR 

1. We can make use of Azure Monitoring Agent (AMA) in place of Log analytics agent for better metrics and cost savings purpose. We can create Data Collection Rules (DCR) and send them to log analaytics workspace. Now the DCR will automatically install the AMA on the selected VMs, If I'm not wrong. Now, If I would to create the alerts for eg: memory utilization, Do I have create them from the workspace section where the DCR is pushing the metrics to. If, yes under which section of workspace I should go and create those alerts.

Azure Monitor Alerts should be setup separately, after the Log data is collected in the Log Analytics Workspace. 

Alerts on Logs can be created using "Log Alert Rules", for some examples on how to setup an alert rule (and some example queries for VMs), you can check this article.
