Is there any way we can configure alerts or query to monitor the status of Vnet peering?

Try this option to configure the alert on the VNet peering on your subscription to get notify your action group.

Whenever the Activity Log has an event with Category='Administrative', Signal name='Create or Update Virtual Network Peering (Microsoft.Network/virtualNetworks/virtualNetworkPeerings)'
