We've confirmed that all systems are back to normal with no customer impact as of 10/25, 15:30 UTC. Our logs show the incident started on 10/12, 07:00 UTC and that during the 13 days and 8 hours that it took to resolve the issue some log analytics customers experienced issues while creating metric alerts for logs.
  • Root Cause: The failure was due to an issue in one of the dependent services.
  • Incident Timeline: 13 days, 8 Hours & 30 minutes - 10/12, 07:00 UTC through 10/25, 21:00 UTC.
We understand that customers rely on Azure Log Analytics as a critical service and apologize for any impact this incident caused.

Root cause has been isolated to an issue in one of our dependent services which was impacting creation of metric alert for logs. To address this issue we have deployed a fix in all regions except Central Canada and Central India. Alert creation is now working as expected in the remaining regions. Some customers may still experience issues while creating metric alert for logs in the mentioned regions and we estimate 4 hours before all issues are addressed.

We continue to investigate issues within Log Analytics. Root cause is not fully understood at this time. Some customers continue to experience issues while creating metric alerts for logs. We are working to establish the start time for the issue, initial findings indicate that the problem began on 12th October. We currently have no estimate for resolution.
